I just bought a RFI marked new bayonet for my lee Enfield No. 5 (Jungle Carbine) on E-Bay. It's a great looking, brand new bayonet but it doesn't fit my No.5. Anyone else buy one of these? Any problems?

I was lucky - Mine JUST fits on the muzzle of my rifle. Other than the horrendously pooly fitting scales, it almost looks real...

One of these days, I'll convince myself to buy a real one.

Damned children - Taking money away from my rifles!

Personally, I think the bayonets to be way over priced for what they are, the originals that is. Might as well buy a new rifle for the amount!

If your taking Finnish bayonets you could buy two or three rifles depending on the bayonet. I don't know if its just rarity or what. You'd think that there would be some available somewhere at reasonable prices.

The reason why the bayonets were so rare is that when they released the no5 Enfield carbines, the bayonets were retained for the sterling sub machine guns. I remember seeing the bayonets hit a high of $250 a decade or so back. With the withdrawal of the smgs from the various countries, the bayonets have trickled out to the market, but at more realistic, although still high, prices.

The RFI marked bayonets as purchased through IMA for $60 are notorious for their poor fit. They do provide many people who are not willing to spend the $100-$150 for originals a chance to fit something to their rifles.

I have had a few of the RFI bayonets over the years and they all worked well.
Most of the No5s we have now, are from India, so why are the bayonets considered to be S**t. India also had Sterlings which also use the No5 bayonet.
India has been manufacturing quality bayonets for years, so has the quality control deteriorated. Unless the No5s are manufactured by private industry.
I sold off most of my No5 bayonets over the years including the first model a MkI with one screw hole in the grips. I kept two of the MkIIs one is nickel plated and the other is stock'

I agree. I have a RFI bayo for one of mine, and the fit and finish are excellent.

They are not made by Ishapore Arsenal and are not military issue bayonets, but commercially probably by kids is a back alley mud hut fom low grade soft steel.
