New KAC for 8ball! Small range report post # 54

Well we can put it on anyway, but CFO policy says we can't shoot it.

We can buy, sell and transport but not use!?!?

Ever try and sell a car without allowing the client to test drive?

"Trust us! It's great! Look at the flyer"

Are you tossing that lil old PEQ on it?

Couple shots just for wcamike!

And before anyone asks, yes I have "the rest of it".

Here's some more pics as promised. First thing I did was pull off the Sopmod and take some 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper to the front edge and smooth it off. Feels much better against the cheek now! Pulled out the factory charging handle and replaced it with a BCM mod4, the finest out there in my humble opinion. Changed the factory grip out for a Magpul MIAD. Installed a set of K and S anti rotation pins, just cause I like how they look! Had to take a file to the top edge of the right hand pin cap where it meets up with the right side bolt release fence. Pulled off the KAC rail panels and replaced them with Ergo ladder rail covers. Much slimmer in the hand now, and installed a Troy vert grip. Chucked an Aimpoint T1 micro on a Larue LT-660 mount and installed that, and last but not least I took off the A2 flash hider and installed a KAC Triple Tap. I'm sure it said something in the manual about it being blasphemy to run a KAC without a TT! :sniper: ENJOY!

So I managed to get out to the range with this bad boy this past weekend. Put about 700 rounds through her. I was hoping for a little higher round count but I met a few buddies at the range so had to shoot the breeze for a bit and then it got dark on me. I didn't spend lots of time on the bench, but with 55 and 60 gr Hornady TAP FPD it would drop 5 into an inch to an inch and a half. This with the 4 MOA dot on my T1 micro! Not to shabby in my books! I put about 300 rounds of Privi 5.56 through it at steel plates and then loaded up all the mags I had with me for the grand finally.

200 rounds in 20 pistol mags and 125 rounds in various 5 rounders for a total of 325 rounds and 45 mags. Started shooting and 4 minutes and 12 seconds (and 44 mag changes later:eek:) I had 325 empty brass and one smoking hot gun!:D Thats about 1.3 shots per second including mag changes. The 10 rounders were bump fired, which pushed the time down and the speed up. As I was getting close to done the Triple Tap was actually glowing a bright cherry red as well as the gas tube. I yanked the PEQ off as soon as I was done, LOTS of heat coming off her!

Notice the difference in colour of the TT from the top photo to the bottom one.

A close up of the bolt carrier showing the oil burnt off.

And a close up of the TT.

The Triple Taps are amazing. There are other brakes out there that are as effective as the TT, but they all seem to be quite a bit louder than the TT. And it looks cool!
