New Kel Tec RFB Hunter

I really like my RFB. It's a fantastic rifle for the brush we hunt in. I don't think that you're pics do the gun justice, as it probably looks even better in person. Very impressive to have the ballistics of a 24" inch barrel packed into a 32" platform. Congratulations on the new rifle!

Cheers,

M

I don't get the benefit of this model. Is it just slightly higher velocities? Gas system and everything else is the same, correct?

I loved my RFB, but this one looks a bit 'goofy' to me. Did you have to pay a premium over the standard RFB-C?

I would LOVE to add this barrel, the max velocity out of 165gr with 18.5" tube is around 2600 FPS. That is pretty anemic and limits you to about 250-275 yards effective range for hunting BIG game. The 24" tube will give you 350-400 yard range on Deer and I will GREATLY improve accuracy. I expect that RFB with long barrel will be easily capable of MOA...SUB MOA may be capable with alot of load tweaking.

IMHO....more weight up front, better balance, less recoil, the muzzle will be more stable when shooting in field positions....the same reason why a longer barreled rifle is more accurate than a pistol with a buttstock attached???

The same reason why one gun may be more accurate then some other gun......?

A long barrel with iron sights and peeps will help in aiming, but on a gun with a scope it gains nothing for sighting.

I doubt the barrel length will add anything other then velocity and overall length.

Had the low nightforce rings from another rifle and tried them out......just does not line up nice for me. The x-high work great and line up perfect every time. Had to pay $200 extra with the hard case and sling/attachment. I was not sure about the looks at first, but love shooting this rifle!

Very nice rifle sf750, may I ask why you choose this version over the 18,5" barreled model? Thanks in advance for your reply,,,

It will be more accurate....ESPECIALLY from field shooting positions. I wonder if the guys commenting have even shot a RFB?:HR:

I would guess not.
Have you shot both?
It sounds like you have shot the short version and it also sounds like maybe you find it unstable off hand and or hard to shoot off sticks or a pack....?

Just acquired a new Kel-tec rfb hunter from Ellewood epps! I'll shoot it the next days off but already impressed with how nice the trigger is for a bull pup!

I don't think the velocity gain would be much. I chrono'ed a 18.5" barrel RFB the other day. 165gr factory ammo

2695 fps.

About the same for a 22" barrel 308 bolt action.

At most, you may gain 100 fps.

I was thinking the same thing, maybe 100 or 150 more fps. Hardly enough of a difference to put this into a whole different class of "long-range" capability. This gun just looks like it is partially negating the big advantage of a bull-pup...the super-short length overall length.

Some people may find it easier (or more difficult!) to shoot well, and it should be a bit quieter, but if there are no changes beyond the barrel length there's no reason to think that this will be a more accurate gun.

After shooting the rifle, I decided I think I want one (the short barreled one)for deer hunting in thick cover. I hear they are hard to find these days though?

I've had my hunter out once to test function. Waiting on optics to show up now. Plan on putting a Vortex PST 1-4x24 with tmcq reticle. I did notice how little felt recoil this compact unit has. After a the fall's hunting season though I do plan on sending it out to have the barrel threaded for a FH.
