My wife's younger brother camps a lot and likes to carry a smallish knife so I built him a knife for a gift the next time we meet. It's made of 1084 steel that I rust blued with a DIY micarta-ish handle. I'm hoping the rust blue will make it less prone to rusting as he lives on the left coast. I'm going to replace the slotted screws with torx screws when I find some.

Just wanted detachable handle so it could be cleaned up easier if it gets really wet. Next time I order steel I might get some corby bolts or something similar, right now I made some barrel standoffs for the machine screws to attach to. The brass screws were all I could find locally but I might try Bolt Supply this week.

Nice job. I had good results with a rust blue finish on a 1085 camp knife. I always worried about surface hardness (I don't know sheet about steel etc.), but I never encountered any issues.

Decent looking knife, OP. :)

Here is a knife made by a friend. I drew up the design, he built it
It is AUS-8 steel, and while not holding an edge like my Benchmade Barrage M390, it is not bad.
Dave.

Changed out the screws to some I blued and I like the look better, I couldn't get any torx head screws like I wanted but these look OK
