I couldn't take it anymore and found myself a brand new non-current 2004 Remington VS SF in 220 Swift with the thinner wrist HS stock which I much prefer over the new 2006 style. Pud gave me a great deal on it and its on its way to my gun smith in Peterborough for the install of a nickel Timney trigger to be set @ 1.5 pounds. Dies still need to be purchased for the loading of some custom J4 jacket 52 grain hollow points which I've been told can be pushed above 4000 FPS:eek: :dancingbanana: For the top of this marvelous Remington I've got a 2006 Leupold VX II 6-18x40 A/O LRV duplex scope and Burris signature rings. I figure that this rig will make this go pop out past 400 yards on a good day of dirt pig hunting:D Any suggestions out there if neck sizing is the way to go or should I stick to full length sizing? What dies are recommended for top accuracy? I'll post some pic's in a couple weeks once she's ready to let the air out of some yotes.

I have had a torrid affair with the 220 Swift for some 35 years now, and have a few ideas. First, I believe the Swift to be the finest 22 cal varmint round ever commercially marketed. AAMOF, I shot a 'yote at a lasered 412 yards last Monday, I'll have pics to post when I get them back from the shop. I neck size for 2-3 sizings, but then you will find you have to full-length once to "bump" the shoulder back a wee bit since they will begin to chamber with some difficulty. This is particularly so if you are pushing it a bit. I prefer Redding dies, but did well for years with RCBS. You should be able to get 4000 or very close to it with those 52's. I get about 4050 with the 50 Ballistic tip in a 26" tube, and 80 fps less with the 55. Powders that shine in the Swift are: IMR 4064, IMR4320, IMR 4895, RL15, Vihtavuori N140, N540, N150, H380, H4895, H414, W760. The highlighted ones are my all time favorites. If your VSSF proves to have a good barrel,[likely] you will be amazed at the accuracy of the Swift. I have no trouble busting crows at 375+ yards if the wind isn't howling. Mine wears a Leupold VX III 6.5-20 AO with the CPC reticule. Enjoy your Swift, It's a winner!! Regards, Eagleye.

That is rediculous... you are gonna melt the jackets off them bullets at that speed. How many Remingtons does it take to satisfy Chilly Willy's obsession anyway???? :runaway:
Never mind I already know the answer to that question.... all of them.;)

What the hell is that avatar picture Chilly?

Redd,

That's Chilly Willy with the prototype 375 RUM of course!

This concludes my collection of rifles as I find now that nothing is left uncovered.

220 Swift VS SF, VXII 6-18x40 LRV = dirt pig machine
243 Win T3 S/S Lite, 4200 4-16x50 = varmint carry rifle
260 BDL S/S, VXII 4-12x40 LRD = coyote / light deer rifle
270 BDL S/S, VXII 3-9x50 LRD = Deer / Caribou rifle
30-06 7600, Aimpoint Comp 2x = carbine = bush gun
300 RUM BDL S/S, VXIII 4.5-14x50 LR B&C = L/R moose hammer
375 RUM BDL S/S, VXII 3-9x40 = friggin' anything I want it to do!!!!!

You've got a problem with that Redd? Your just sour about the 375 RUM project....I know you want it!

From what I've been told about the 220 Swift, I'm expecting big things! We'll have to play wack a crow in the winter and graduate to wack a dirt pig in the spring. Should be fun. I hope the 204 Ruger has no problems with the scope base. Like we discussed, glass bedding the weaver rail will do the job nicely I'm sure. Toomer is sweet on the 220 Swift and has offered some great advise and some custom 52's too boot.
