I recently picked up this rifle .I dont know much about it, but the markings on it are. G.R 1918 SHT L.E 111. I payed a bit of money for it {250} but Ive never seen one in this good of shape. Can someone give me a little info on it, and by how much did I over pay.

It looks pretty nice. If it is matching with a good bore, I'd pay $350+ for it.
My first SMLE cost me $8.88, but that just shows off my advancing years.
 
$250 is not a bad price

but I'm interested in the markings, is there no factory name listed below the crown, BSA.Co, Enfield, etc...

If not look on the top rear of the reciever next to the left side of the bolt for markings SSA or NRF if it's got those markings you did very well :)
 
but please put the sling on the right way;)

The tabs should be on the inside with the smooth side of the rivits facing the wood. Lower loop should be one handbreadth wide while any adjustments for length are made with the upper loop.

Is the piling swivel on the nosecap or is it missing? Can't tell from the pic.

that is certainly some nice wood.
 
That's a nice lookin SMLE. I'd say that's a fair price. You'll often see guns like that on here for 300+, but those are, IMHO, overpriced(or maybe just ahead of the pricing curve). Great score no matter what!

Quite a score for the price...looks like new.

The marking on the rear of the reciever are SSA, as well on the butt stock there is a stamp marking that reads R M.N.O 7/45 it looks like some kind of a military marking anyone have any thoughts on what it means? As for the sling good eye, it came like that but she's fixed up now. I have another one that a guy gave me but it was butchered up with a sporting stock, does anyone know where I might find some full military wood for it?

Check the headspace before you shoot it. G.R 1918 SHT L.E 111. Means George Rex(The King during W.W. I), 1918(the year of manufacture) Short Magazine Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk III(the model of the rifle).
It's a W.W. I made rifle that very likely was used by the Australians during W.W. II. They didn't change to the No. 4 Lee-Enfield for the Second war.
Any other stamps on it?

ah I was right, :D :dancingbanana: is a SSA rifle. one of the lower prodction runs. Nice score

SSA = Standard Small Arms, this was a factory that did not make parts but assembled rifles from excess production that the other factories were unable to use. Sort of a central assembly plant. It was opened in 1916 and produced very few rifles that year and in 1917 produces more but was closed in 1918 due to poor management but reopened that year but renamed National Rifle Factory NRF and produced a bunch more rifles.

I suspect the other stamp is a inspection mark, 7/45 = July 1945 the RMNO I have no ideal I suspect Royal ? ? ? I dont think its a FTR but if you take off the top rear handguard and check the date on the barrel it may be a rebarrel, barrel date if original should look like '18

I'll have to check my 1918 SSA now to get more details. :) I think mine is a 1953 FTR Canadian marked example.
