New Lee turret press owner....with a question for other owners?

Hi guys, I have Lee classic cast turret press, and I'm putting it together with no problems, and I think that I'm pretty much ready to load up some powder, primers, and get rocking....

I have just one question........Is there a spring or clip that keeps the shellholder in place, on the press ? I don't know if I'm missing it, or if it just sits on the press as is ? When I take off a brass case, the shellholder occasionally slides off, and I can see it becoming frustrating. If I rotate the shellholder to the 9 O'clock position it seems to not be a issue, but I was'nt sure if I was just missing a clip that keeps the shellholder into place or not ?

There is a small hole in the press that looks like a clip will go in there to keep the shellholder attached, so it leaves me thinking that there must be a clip of some type that I can't find perhaps.
 
Yes, there should be a spring clip that holds the shell holder. If it's missing Lee will probably send you one for no charge.
 
Okay thanks. I just looked it up, and I might have lost it....Either way, I just sent a email, so hopfully they will send me one. I just made one up out of a bobby pin and thats working fine until I get the proper clip.

The bobby pin will work better then the factory piece, in fact alot of personal grooming products can be used to repair or get a Lee working. Hairpins, old style curling irons, can all be pressed into service. I used vice grips alot until most of my Lee stuff was gone.

I sold all of my junk as boat anchor's and bought quality tool's also.
All LEE by the way.
I what you mean, ya just get tired of having to half ass your way thru a re-loading session and finally just get fed up! :wave:

Ouch! Lee has always worked good for me.
 
I love LEE, heck i got rid of the stupid Dillion Square Deal for 2X Lee1000 Pro (9mm and 357)

Both works like a charm :) and it comes with Bullet feeder and case feeder. try that on a Square...LOL

I can change to 40SW and 44mAg in less than 3 minutes. :D:D

** Hey ALL i mean ALL presses have there issues, just keep them clean and 99% of any problem is gone :) **

as has mine; i have 3 1000s, a loadmaster, a turret,and only the turret consumes ratchets, the rest work perfectly. i even have a joiner that produces a 9mm and a 45 at the same time. i have no idea whether these guys got lemons out of the box, but you watch, blacksmithden will be along soon to add his voice as well-all are lee haters
 
I haven't had a stitch of trouble with my Lee turret press and I've been using it for 20 years. Only had to replace the plastic indexing gear that wears out. It's not fancy, but its not junk. The dies are inexpensive and work well too.

Anything made by Lee is expensive junk in my experience. :stirthepot2:

This is a Lee-lover's thread. Any body who makes the mistake of Lee bashing is quickly put in his proper place.:D

Several guys immediately defended Lee in a very polite manner. So if you are referring to that Ben, then yeah, he got a proper response. Rightfully so, IMO. Any one who doesn't have anything to contribute positively, need not post.

Did you ever notice Lee lovers post anything negative about other makes when contributing to "other makes" threads? Didn't think so. Maybe Lee lovers have a little better manners.:D

Lee has made it possible for many reloaders to get their first taste of reloading. Some started with Lee, sold them, then moved on to other brands. Some kept their Lees and bought other brands too.

Some like myself, started with Lee (Pro1000), bought Hornady (Pro-jector) and Dillon (3 550Bs), and now, have come full circle and use Lee exclusively. I am very satisfied and happy with my Classic Cast Single, Classic Turret and Loadmaster. Why? Because needs change, circumstances change, and yes my Hornady and Dillons had issues as well, but rather not get into that.

One more thing: If it weren't for Lee, it would probably have taken me a longer time to get started reloading because of the much higher cost of entry with the other brands. I would've missed out on a lot of good shooting times.

Lee is a successful company. Their products while not the greatest....are affordable and work well for many people, especially people who would rather read and understand instructions, are patient, are mechanically inclined, are able to fix problems, have no "attitude", are easy to please, don't whine.

You may have already done this, but just in case...

Lubing the Classic in all the proper places will keep it humming for a long long time. Even that cheap square ratchet that some have needed to change relatively often, lasts a long time if the press is lubed adequately.

Simple and cheap mineral 10W/30 motor oil applied with your finger, small tube, Q-tip or small watercolor paint brush on:

1. around the perimeter of the turret where it contacts the turret ring,
2. square index rod/square ratchet/auto index clamp,
3. all link pivot pins,
4. ram/base

With proper lube, the Classic will index smoothly and exactly, every time you operate the handle.

then your experience is somewhat LACKING; i stand by my record, and while there's never been very much money to spend on equipment( and i did 3 gun comp back in the 90's) , the lee stuff has been enough to see me through, although i do have a dillon 550 in 308, just b/c i needed a progressive and lee didn't make one in rifle at that time; oh, and btw, it also sucks that it doesn't auto- index, nor is there a way to make it- that stupid star wheel can get you into trouble if there's an interruption in the cadence
one other thing- notice how LOW the post count is on these people that hate lee, with the possible exception of ben?- makes me wonder HOW LONG they've been at reloading ,and how much of it is frustration due to OPERATOR ERROR; i've seen questions on here from guys that didn't take the time to even READ THE MANUAL, or just took it back even though advised on what was wrong and how to fix it
the fact that mystic uses a lee also should hold some weight-
 
i find it fascinating the NUMBER of people that buy the 1000 , use it for a short while, ( as little as once) get it to screw up, and simply put it in storage, throw it away or sell it; IT'S NOT a complicated press, people. and LEE PRECISION is READY TO HELP - always within 24 hours unless it's a weekend- they also EXPECT you to read the manual, with 3 of the suckers, i've had my bumps over the years, and they've always been there for me, sending pictures in some cases,
maybe what needs to happen is a CLINIC similar to what m14 doc and hungry conduct, but on the 1000 and maybe throw the loadmaster in for good measure- the turret and single stages you should be able to figure out for yourself
