i was just reading a hunting mag(which most of my life consists off) and i saw the new hornady evolution ammo, it is for lever gun... and the reason it is so cool is because the ends are sharp and pointed, but it is like a polymer tip or something but it flexes and moves as not to set off the next cartridge.. anyone else seen these or used them. just interested
regards

Wow, that's amazing, I've never heard of it before. That should be incredible in tube mags which so many levers have. What happens when it's -30 out, will that flexible tip get hard and with recoil fire off the remaining rounds? Well I'm sure they've tested that. :D I'm just being a smart ass:p , there have been a few threads about it already, it should prove interesting though.;)

It looks cool, and the trajectories they supply are way better than the old ammo. However, I can't help but wonder what the groupings really are. If the tip is soft enough to be safe in the tube magazine, what happens on initial firing. Wouldn't the polymer tip compress during firing and then stay compressed (inertia) somewhat until the bullet reached a certain velocity. Would this not effect the groupings having a hunk of polymer changing it's coefficient during flight?

Far be it from me to just flat out believe a sales pitch  If anyone has bought this stuff, could you please share with us what your groupings really are at 100 and 200 yards?

Please, no Hornady employees to supply the results.:D :D :D

Arch:)

One of our CGN members, d.bala, picked up a box of 30-30 LEVERevolution already and I had a chance to look at them close up - good point, should really help the ballistics. I am not sure where he bought it, but I think he picked it up in the U.S.

I asked at W.S. and they said it is not available, may be six months before it becomes available in Canada according to them (I never know if these guys answer questions because they know or just to make it sound like they know - only one of five guys had even heard of it).

Does anyone know who could be selling this in Canada already?

According to Hornady, the results are very good, but I am more interested in trying it myself.

I shot 5 Rd's of it the other day wasn't shooting it for accuracy just playing around off hand for what i can tell so far it shoots higher than the other stuff and a little more kick.

Yup, I just read a small bit about it in the 2006 Gun Digest book a few months back.

I Sort of filed it away in my head as at the time I didn't own a 30/30, and also everything takes so stupid long to get to Kanuckistan.

I'd like to try them also.

Hey check out the Vid! :)

On a semi related topic... those "new" marlins. I wonder if I could get a set of those laminates for my "regular" 336?

They've also got a 500 s&w leverevolution bullet. Wonder if they know something we don't... (as far as I know, there are no 500 lever guns) :)
