Totally agree with all who propose the 22LR. Cheap round, lots of practice, low recoil, cheap(er) gun usually, quiet. Get the proper technique, control down pat as handguns are different from long arms. Once you get comfortable, then think 9 mm, 45 ACP etc for later. Better to hit your target with a 22 then hit the pavement with a 45! Enjoy your future gun and be safe!

20 Years ago I made a Ruger MKII .22 my first purchase. Great pistol. I have bought many other .22's since.
I always hymed and hawed about the cost of a Smith & Wesson 41
You know I would have saved a pile of cash if I started with the 41. Cry Once at the price 875.00 and up. Then smile for the rest of your life.
Here is mine. The other .22's are all gone now. Oh Yeah You are going to want a 1911 as well. Mine is 45acp, but many manufactures produce them in 9mm as well.

honestly, CZ shadow if its in your price range. ive got a few pistols, shot many and i love my shadow.
i picked up a m&p40, the trigger was bugging y finger (shape) so i put in a pex kit... $250 later i could have bought something else i liked better....walther PPQ i next on my list.
before ou choose a caliber find out wat is easy to come by in your area, how muc you plan on shooting and what its going to cost you.
whe i go out i blow minimum 200 rounds of pistol ammo, but generally its 600 per range visit.
