To make a short story long, when I had my STW built it was chambered for the 142gr ABLR and I had done development on a few different bullets. Eventually I actually just got upset with speed and went with a 120gr unleaded bullet (which shoots awesome btw). At that time I realized the 6.5 wasn't anything special compared to the 7mm and in fact I should have just built a 7mm.
Now, im starting to see the 150gr Nosler ABLR is becoming more available to me in the places I shop at, has anyone used it in their 6.5STW or possibly in a 6.5-300WBY?

Cheers

6.5 STW ?

Like a necked down 8mm rem mag to 6.5 😳😳😳gotta be a bbl burner right ?

Whats it vs a 264 😳?
Well lets face it, pretty much any 6.5 bigger than a 260 burns barrels, its a hunting gun not a target rifle. Its shooting 140s in the low to mid 3,000s. I think the 142 settled in around 3440 in change and only dropped about 18" @500m with a 300 zero. The 120s i shoot are going around 3650

The original 7 STW was a necked down 8mm Rem Mag (which in turn was a necked down and improved 375 H&H). In time the STW case was necked down to 6.5 and 25. I've owned both (actually all of the aforementioned cartridges) and for high performance hunting rifles they aren't too bad in the barrel burning department. I also built a 7mm Mach IV (7mm Rem Mag necked down to 6mm, shoulder blown forward and improved). That one didn't have much of a shelf life. Back when I had a 378 WY Mark V action I tried a few necked down versions on that case. Get down around 7mm on that case and barrels don't last long. Fun though, and very impressive over a chronograph. - dan

I owned several 7mm STWs over the years. They were flat shooting irons, but I torched a couple of
barrels. I imagine the 6.5 STW would eat up a throat quickly, but would be a dynamite LR shooter. EE

It does, and I learned some lessons with this thing, it has about 200 or so rounds down it now, shoots great out to 600m which is where my max hunting range is.
