New lockhart option - Silver

I really wish Lockhart would start making uppers without the side-charging slots.

Easier for them to make, and better for us to use.

It would be an easy Win/Win.

They do. The Gen 3 upper does not have side charging. No opening on the left. Forward assist replaces the slot on the right.

They did an initial order run for the g3 uppers in December. It was limited to 100 units which sold out but still haven't shipped. They have a "notify me" button on their website for the part if you search for it. Presumably when they get their production sorted out they will allow more to be ordered.

It seems that they have a lot of production woes. The 22LR bolt kit was also supposed to go up for ordering yesterday (May 31st) but that didn't happen and they edited the page to remove the note that orders for the 22lr bolt kit begin on May 31st.

I have never seen one without the side cutouts.

Great to hear that they actually exist.

These guns are just fugly man. Does anyone really care about the caliber change magwell or could these guys just make a half decent rec set that looks good and takes normal bcgs. The only times these look passable is with some bcm furniture. No ones making any retro clones with these

I think the interchangeable mag well was all part of the RCMP lab approval to get the 9mm PCC approval first so they could then Pivot into the 223 version (and other calibers). If they just submitted an all-in-one 223 AR-ish clone it may have risked rejection by the lab.

That much I know, i just figured by now they'd streamline the process a bit. Makes more sense to just build the rec sets without the lightening cuts, side charger, and magwell

Anyone else receive their Silver?

I was doing some mag testing with my existing stanag pattern mags and noticed my SureFeed, ETS, and IWI mags will not allow full insertion when 5 rounds are loaded on a closed bolt. Is this normal, or just a result of the way those mags were pinned?

It is the way that your mags are pinned - on the side of ensuring that there is no way to jam a 6th, illegal round into the mag. Tight pins are no worry - just load on an open action like most folks do...

So, is anyone else who ordered a "Silver" edition pissed-off that the Receiver machining is not "basic" as indicated in the pre-sale drawings? I DON"T WANT the fancy "Lightening Cuts", as I do not see them as an upgrade of any sort whatsoever. I do not like the look, period. There is simply far too much going on with the Platinum Rifle. I wanted the simplicity of a standard AR with Right-hand controls and plain, flat billet surfaces.

If the Silver is nothing more than a Platinum made of 6061 Aluminum with a flat Mag Well, then I am not impressed. Lockhart says no cancelled orders, but in this case, where the product is not as visually represented in the pre-sale advertising I'd say that there is a strong case for cancellation without penalty. I am really on the fence about this one now...

Yeah I agree get rid of the lightening cuts and add a forward assist ;)

And just get rid of the left side charging slot altogether.

It's not an upgrade. It's a downgrade.

So, I opened a Ticket with LTAC Customer Service, which got me a response within 12 hours or so. I now finally understand what LTAC is trying to achieve. Essentially, they are pumping out "hybrid" Silver Rifles with Platinum machining on the Receivers and the Platinum-qiuality Barrels as a "thank-you" to their early pre-sales Buyers for having missed the initial launch date promised. At some point, that will cease and 100% Silver-grade rifles will be produced with simplified machining on the Receiver Halves as well as the Magazine Well, and lower-quality Barrels. Silver edition pre-sale buyers who wish to wait for all of the Simplified Components can request to do so, however no timeline for production or receipt of a purely Silver-grade rifle was provided to me. Getting information out of LTAC is like pulling teeth sometimes....

When it comes to cancelling an order, I was told that LTAC would immediately process a requested cancellation of any undelivered, pre-paid "Silver" Raven. This reflects a conditional change to LTAC's stated "no cancellations" policy, so is worth noting for those who may now be sitting on the fence for a Silver build. FWIW...

Good info Bartok5, sounds like they are trying to do right by the early adopters, and be flexible with options. I'm happy to hold on to my "hybrid" rifle for now and hopefully you can obtain your 100% Silver later.

On an unrelated note - the 22LR BCG is now available for pre-order. "6-8 week delivery time frame".

I 100% agree with this statement. They missed the look mark with the platinum cuts...it makes it look like an airsoft Rifle. I'm waiting on the sidelines until they put a straightforward receiver out like the silver or a 308.

The silver image above looks way better than the platinum...they're on the right track hopefully but I see it as an upgrade, as Bartok does

Well, I just got my shipping notice for the "Silver" rifle, so I guess one of the hybrid Silver/Platinum systems is on the way. Ah well, at least its arrival will allow me to sell off my Platinum rifle and focus on the new platform.
