New, Looking to Buy A Shot Gun Shell Press

Hi There

Looking for some advice, I am looking to reload 12,16 and 410 Shot gun shells. I have a rough idea what I need, but I am looking for a Press/Kit. My volume is about 200-500 a month with mix guages. I have looked at some press single stage (Multi) and I am thinking that will do me just fine. Question, some presses (Example Mec 600) are setup for just one guage, I don't want to buy 3 different setups for what I use. Is there a press I can buy that is good that I can buy kits to load the different guages and use the same Press? I know, sorry for the beginner questions, but we all have to start somewhere....Thanks for your time.....
 
12 ga birdshot or slugs/buck? if birdshot/trap loads, no $$$ savings whatsoever. Something to consider before diving into a press setup...

There is probably some savings for 410 though. You should be able to find kits that will let you go from different gauges on a single press though
 
I wouldn't bother loading 12 gauge stuff if your aim is to shoot clays. Big savings loading 16, 28 gauge and 410 though! Check out local buy/sell adds, Ebay, etc. Might take a bit of snooping but Mec 600's come up once in a while. You could also conciser converting a 12 into 16 but that would be the expensive way of doing it. I believe Higginsons used to sell Mec stuff as well.
 
To answer your question, I do not belive anybody makes an easy to convert reloader.

M12 is correct, don't bother loading 12ga for just shooting clays. The cost to convert a MEC 600 to another gauge, is about half the cost of a new one, not including what you spend on the loader. So you would want to get one on the cheap.

I am a upland guy mostly, shooting behind my Small Munsterlander Pointer in the field for Chucker, quail and pheasant and lots a grouse. (later Season) So I am looking at mostly game loads, a little bit of 12 guage at the club, but like it has been said ,that cheap. Maybe I will buy a press and start with the 410 stuff first and see where I go from there. I was looking at a Mec 600, I will start doing some hunting for some equipment. I shot about 1000 to 1200 410 shots last year and about 500 of the 16 gauge. I don't shoot Duck and Geese, no time. Thanks for the help......
 
You may wish to consider the Ponsness Warren # 375.
Will do all gauges with very minor effort for changeover.
Want to get fancy, an extra tooling head will let you change to any guage within 5 min.
I have had one for many years and now use it for load development before I set up the progressives for volume reloading.
Prior to that... I used it for close to 20 yrs to load all my hunting stuff.
I much prefer it over the Mec Jr
