New, Looking to Buy Mosin Nagant

Counterbored mosins are common and they will outshoot non counterbored examples hands down. The reason is if soviets went to trouble of counterboring rifle then it was worth saving and it was a good shooter. After counterbore the crown is sharp and it will give you proper accuracy as oppose to noncounterbored where throug its service life soldiers cleaned it through muzzle end wearing crown in the process.

I'm thinking that your bore light is too bright so that we (or at least, I) can't get a good look at the bore. Could you take new pictures
with the bore light dimmed or pulled back?

Congrats! Give it a couple trips out and shoot it, I'll bet the bore cleans up a lot. Repeated shooting and cleaning did wonders for the last mosin I picked up, it had a dark bore with crisp rifling and has shined up quite a lot. Shoots great, I got it cheap due to a broken extractor and a missing front sight. Nothing I couldn't find online with some searching, it's one of my favourites in the safe now.

Today was the first day I shot a rifle and Itwas by far one of the best expiriences I ever had. I'm gratefull the input of everyone here and am glad I went with the mosin. Like butcherbill mentioned, the barrel cleaned up a lot after the session. Hurts the shoulder after 60 rounds though.
P.S. I will be putting up a more dimmed picture but need a different flashlight or second pair of hands

Anyone have any good tips on sighting it. I was thinking about giving to a gunsmith or should I just use the binoculars, flat head and a hammer and go for it? And what would be the best range to do this at ?

You'll need a brass punch / hammer to dial in the windage by adjusting the front sight. It was probably sighted in with the bayonet attached and may be battle sighted to 300m. If the POI is low, you can file down the front sight to raise it. If the POI is high, you're SOL unless you replace the front sight. You could always just put the bayonet on as well. 50m is a reasonable distance to sight in.

Yeah, it's a great old rifle to shoot. I love hitting my 80 and 100 yrd steel targets with it, the more you shoot it the less it will leave your shoulder sore lol. I find a proper sling wrapped around the arm helps to pull it in tight to the shoulder and reduce the recoil a bit. Last time I was out with it I think I went through 200 rounds between the mosin and svt without to much soreness, the 15-20 slugs in my 12g left me a bit sore though :)

In regards to sighting it in, I start out at 50-60 yrds with a target and adjust the windage left to right with the rear sight leaf at the 100yrd notch. Tap the front sight with a punch and small hammer or pliers to adjust it, once it's shooting straight stretch it out to 100 and further if there's room past 100. It's easy to do, I wouldn't bother with a gunsmith.

I can hopefully get it done by next week. The svt looks sweet, I just love the look of these older military rifles. Can't wait till a couple of months, I might be able to buy that Mauser.
I never believed my buddy when he said no matter how much ammunition you buy, it's never enough, today I experienced exactly what he meant

Al flaherty's, most of the employees were nice expect one guy behind the counter at the back, not very friendly. Also they do not inspect or stand behind any of their used guns, so I kind of took the plunge by buying the rifle by only checki the trigger, bolt and barrel.

Keep going back to Al Flaherty's and you will become familiar to the people there and even the grumpy old guy will warm up (every local gun store has one)

To lower the POI you file the underside leading edge of the rear sight slide
