New lothar walther barrels for smle mk3

I’ve been told that Nick at Vulcan Gun Refinishing (Maidstone Ontario) is considering placing an order for new lothar walther barrels (light barrels) specifically for the SMLE MK3. I was told he wanted light barrels specifically instead of heavy barrels so they won't have to go through the hassle of fitting heavy barrels on SMLES that were originally manufactured with light barrels.

Lothar will only make a minimum batch of 20 barrels and Nick wont pull the trigger until at least 10 people have signed up since payment has to be made in full to LW. (Once on the list you will be contacted for a deposit before the order is placed). There are 5 people currently on the list as of now including myself.

If you are looking to snag a fresh barrel and bring your SMLE back to life I would consider placing a call before it's all booked up.

Obviously, call Nick for more details about it, but I wouldn't wait forever as I imagine that list will fill up pretty quickly.

Nick and the team at Vulcan do amazing work and will be able to properly fit these barrels to your existing rifle or do a completely new build.

So not cheap, I would call in or email to get an accurate estimate. Also, I can’t speak for Vulcan.

For a rough idea, I do know someone that sources the lothar walther Heavy SMLE Mk3 barrels. The barrel alone is $795. Then you would need to pay for installation. If you had a light barrel smle you would probably have to pay a bit more to have the appropriate adjustments made for it to be fitted properly. However, the ones Vulcan is looking to order in would be the light version barrel, so it could end up being a little less than the heavy and also less of a fitment issue.

Again that’s just some comparative info I know of, not what Vulcan said it’ll cost.

Certainly not a cheap venture, but you'd be getting an amazing new barrel that's properly mounted. That could be done on a refurbed rifle done by vulcan or your own existing one if your were looking to bring it back to its former glory.

All in all, considering the costs and simply that most outfits cant justify an order like that from Lothar, i'd say its a smart investment. Who knows when someone is gonna look to place another order like this in the future if at all.

Can’t speak to the 88 barrels, I just know of the interest in making the order for the smle mk3 ones.

It’s worth a call though. If LW has one already produced hanging around I don’t see why they wouldn’t be able to throw it in. Definitely, gonna need to speak to Nick about that however.

Again my understanding is that if you wanna make a custom barrel order for things LW isn’t already stocking, then you have to place a minimum order of 20 units.
