New M&P pistol: M2.0

I have not seen an official reason, but my guess would be the requirement to shoot 4" groups at 50 yards for the life of the pistol

Ouuch! I don't know many shooters that can do that with any gun. I guess I and my acquaintances suck eggs.

Thanks! Fun project gun for me!

Hit it with dremel tool with sandpaper head. When shape was right I used fine grit sandpaper to get rid of marks and deburr the edges. Finally, buffed with dremel tool polishing head to get the colour to match rest of gun.

Hmmm...that might be a fun winter project for mine.

Dang. I was hitting an 8" plate at 50y 2-4 times/mag yesterday with my Walther P99 offhand. I thought a service pistol would be more accurate than a 4" group out of a vice. Maybe I was just getting lucky.

V1 had bad barrel lock up. Bad sight where the factory sight was .185 in the rear and they had to change it to .250 so that it dont shoot 6 inches low at 30 cm.

Since people are posting pics lol ...This was my M&P after a face lift, sold it about 8 years ago..

I always shot my old M&P Pro, better than my Glock 34, just because it fit my hand better. Now with these new M&P's I'm seriously considering switching back. Although I can't say I'd ever sell my Glock 34 (Famous last words). I don't like that the 5" FDE M2.0 only seems to come with the thumb safety. Does anyone know if its a big deal to remove the safety and run it like a normal, non-safety lever M&P? I imagine the internals are pretty close to the gen 1 M&P's.

I really like the 5" model, I don't even care too much about the thumb safety, but it only comes in FDE in the full size. I don't know what it is but I don't care for FDE on much of anything

love my m&p, and love it even more with the poly apex fss (tried all of them inc. the flat faced and alum)

only thing i dont like, which alot of guys do, is the ease of auto closing the slide on magainze insert

If the internals are the same it should not be any problem removing the safety. Remember this is an early announcement and there will be more models I am sure.

I took my early M&P and upgraded it to all the new internals (updated striker, slide release and sear block) plus fitted an Apex flat forward set sear and trigger as well as an Apex semi-fit barrel (to replace the horrible super slow twist of my early barrel). Lots of upgrades nearly totalling the cost of a new gun, but wow is it ever a different beast. I thought I was an absolutely terrible pistol shooter before but it's nice that the groups have tightened significantly since the changes.

When replacing the sear block, you can order the entire assembly with what is essentially the entirety of version component in it (internal lock, thumb safety, mag safety) and remove what you do not want anymore. I went from a mag safety pistol to one without. If the design of the 2.0 follows that of the 1.0, I would assume you could delete the thumb safety with somewhat ease, all it would take is a roll pin punch and a small replacement plug to fill the hole in the frame (for aesthetics only). The thumb safety goes in the same location as the internal lock, and is replaced by a small spring IIRC.

jcenten what did your Apex barrel cost you? Theirs is 1 - 16 twist I think, the old S&W M&P_ was 1 - 18 and the newer ones have been 1 -10 now for about three years. My S&W 1 - 10 twist barrel cost me $85 + postage total from Charlton(SP). Smith won't let their barrels out unless they get installed by their repair centers. I out the new barrel in my 5"Pro and noticed a bit of an improvement in accuracy using 147 gr bullets. The 125gr ones were about the same after the barrel change.
