New M&P pistol: M2.0

silly question but how do you tell what the twist rate on your barrel is?
how can you tell if you have a old barrel or new barrel - for replacement needing to the 1:10

Number of * stamped on the locking block. None, one or two, or so the theory goes.

There is a thread floating around on here with pics.

My Pro has none, so I guess it's the original twist. Works for me. I shoot 147s for the most part.

Take a look inside the barrel. A 1 - 10 twist is pretty easy to see. It is fast. The 1 - 18 twist is slower. if you are at the range and if someone has a CZ the twist in the barrel for the CZ is 1 - 10. One peek and you will know the difference in the rifling, the turns are tighter in the 1 - 10 twist barrels.

Looks like some nice improvements. The purpose of the cut outs in the dust cover was outlined in another review:
"It is easy to identify the new M2.0, since the steel frame is visible via windows on either side of the dust cover near the rails. In fact, that is now where the serial number is located."

Apex helped save this puppy stay afloat in the long run for action shooters. It is ergonomically one of the best polymer pistols on the market but how on earth it got to market with that trigger....

I have often wondered what the person at S&W who allowed that M&P factory trigger to go out the door in the first place is doing now?

I have some M&Ps (9, 40 and 45) and the only thing that needed improvement was the trigger. According to these videos, the trigger was improved in recent production pistols and that same trigger is in the new model. So the trigger should be better than most of the old production pistols.

On one side, the serial number is visible through the cuts. The other side is just made to match.

I suspect the Marketing Dept has something to do with the cuts. They illustrate the extension of the internal metal group in-bedded in the frame to strengthen it.

Damn, so much for 2.0 trigger being better than the orig. Looks like an APEX kit would be in order if I pick one up.

Are we talking about how the trigger feels ie heavy, light, rough or are we talking about how it looks? With the first version you can install either the Competition Kit or Duty Kit and still be legal in SSP as neither change out the physical trigger. One gives you a nice 3.5# trigger while the other just over 5#'s. Most of the reduction and smoothness comes from the Apex FPB and the trigger return spring. The Apex Sear improves the break a bit. I never notice any of that when shooting a match. I doubt many do.

The Apex flat trigger I think is overrated. I have one installed on my 40 Pro and I guess it helps, it is different.

The new gun is said to have addressed the feel of the trigger and now has an audible reset click for those who think it helps. The gun has been upgraded for sure and the extension of the metal internal frame molded into the polymer will stiffen an already stiff frame. I doubt I have any reason to sell off my existing M&P's for the newer gun as the ones I have now shoot better than I do. It is nice to see S&W freshen a well designed pistol.

I still want a CORE Vcomp but to date other pistols keep getting in the way. I just picked up a 92A1 and with the Girsan Compact and the return of a Shadow purchased over the last three months I think the CORE maybe the only thing left on my wish list. I am about done.
