New M14, couple questions

Hey guys, picked up a norc m14 a couple weeks ago and have a few issues with it first the front sight is WAY off looks like the whole front sight/flashhider was put on crooked? and the op-rod makes contact with the barrel of the gun. I had to file off a bunch of material from the "hump" in the barrel to make the action work smoothly, and it still isnt perfect. Are these common issues? how do I remedy them? Also, looking for a scope mount ARMS18 always seems to come up, but are there any other good ones I should look at?

Probably the barrel, which is threaded into the receiver, is not positioned correctly and should be tightened a few more degrees rotation to bring up the front sight. This indexing problem will affect other systems as well. You need use of a receiver and barrel wrench.
 
Yes, the barrel is out of index, and is the root of the problems.
Not a difficult thing to remedy with the proper tools.
Take your file. Give it to a friend. Tell your friend not to give it back. Do not buy another one.
There is LOTS of information on this site about these rifles.
There are a number of people who could help you index your barrel.

x2:agree:....leave the file alone.....What you have to do is to read all the stickies...use the search engine and look up barrel indexing....CGN is full of information and tips on your rifle.....after you are done all the reading ...shoot the crap out of it to see what ammo it likes.....federal powershock in a blue box in 150 grain works great in mine (rebate special on ammo from them presently)...Attend one of Hungrys rifle clinics as it is only 35 bucks and you will learn alot and get to do some work to your rifle yourself...you are in luck as he is taking names for a couple clinics now....ottawa clinic later this winter....Welcome to your newest addiction...Well OK mine...lol

All good advice above; X2 on Hungry's clinics. Your ID at the top doesn't show your location so I don't know where the nearest clinic would be, but there's one coming up in Barrie in January. :D Maybe I'll see you there.

To bad you weren't living in Vancouver B.C. still as we would have loved to seen this at the clinic this weekend.
 
seems someone should put together an online clinic product (maybe with two way video chat one on one q&a)

The need for an online course for this seems apparent.

Anyone working on this type of product currently?

Hey, then why not try to make it for the Fredericton M-14 clinic that Slug870 was gauging interest in? If it gets off the ground, he's hoping for sometime next year.

Believe me, it's worth going even if you have to drive over the day before and stay at a hotel (like I did for the Halifax clinic).;)
