New Mac Def receiver set!

Saw it too, looks like a nice unit that uses the same upper and lower connecting groves (or whatever you'd call it). Hopefully they ditch the takedown bolt. I couldn't tell from the pictures.

Looks like it takes standard trigger packs, and I didn't see enough meat in front of the mag well for a takedown bolt.

Anybody know how it differs in function to the original one?

"Based on the proven mating system of the Slr multi this baby boasts ar15 sp-1 trigger pocket and much lighter upper/lower combo."

Takedown method to be announced, and no dust cover option are a couple more points.

This one was built by Aeroknox, he is the one who does the majority of the machine work on the SLR uppers for MDI as well. His stuff is super nice, legit ex-aerospace guy, very interested to see how it all shakes out, these are all just rendered images right now. Very interested to see actual machined pictures of them.

Also not sure how bad the pricing will be, he had a very reasonable sale on his forends on the 4th, ($99.00 USD), so it will be really interesting to see how this all shakes out.

I’m just guessing but the upper appears to have a latch as opposed to a bolt, the ribbed portion of the upper looks to me like a squeeze type latch, not sure what the heck else it would be, if that’s the case FA is probably not gonna happen. I really like it, while the finish and ano on the SLRs I’ve built wasn’t top notch, not terrible but could have been better, both of mine went together without issue, and are still running today. I’ll take one when they come out.

But isn't BCL supposed to be in the aerospace industry. I'm sure that automatically mean they build good rifles right? Lol

Not everything transpires the way it seems it should.

Fair enough, Kevin (I think that's his name) from Aeroknox worked in the Industry down there, lots of guys in Canada label themselves a "Defense Company" or "Aerospace" I bet back in the day NEA was making some bracket that was used in C130's (all 100% unsubstantiated on my behalf) and that's where they got their "Aerospace" moniker. I would assume that in a case like this, dude being from Texas, NW US before that, he knows a bit more of what he is doing than the monkey's at NEA/BCL. The US market is not anywhere near as tolerant as we seem to be for all show/no go products.

At least they are engineering stuff, not like a big distributor here who is pumping the tires on forged receivers that are laser cut with maple leaves and anodized all pretty. Like it or not there is at least some innovation here.

Billet is best, change my mind..........

If not trying to mass produce a basic rifle for the cold war on 1950's manufacturing technology, you are correct. From a low volume machining standpoint, forged is a hassle. So much easier to just slapped in a block and let the machine do the work.

After being a early adopter of various rifles over the years, Macdef SLR & ATRS MS most recently. I'll wait for them to get the 'teething' problems worked out before considering purchasing one.

Looking at the renderings and reading his post the following are my first impressions.

Pro's
lighter weight
more traditional magwell profile
integral trigger guard. Instead of the double drilled replaceable trigger guard on the SLR
doesn't appear to use the dumbest takedown bolt design in the history of MSR's
Looks like he has fixed the location / spacing of the top picatiny slots such that a detachable carry handle will line up properly like on a AR15.
standard trigger pocket. I don't have to explain how stupid the trigger pocket on the SLR is.

Cons
no dust cover
still no forward assist

Obviously nothing can be said about quality of finish or quality of manufacture until they are available to the public.

I'm hopeful that is is just the first of many new NR ARish offerings to be available in Canada. It wouldn't surprise me at all if someone comes up with a design closer to a milspec AR15, manufactured in the US that will get the receiver set pricing down to the $400-$500 range.

I wouldn’t get my hopes up on getting it anytime soon I’ve been waiting 6-7 months on a regular receiver set from them and apparently they are just filling out preorders from March 2018.( as explained by Canadian gun worx)
