Looks like Brownells started shipping units a few weeks ago..... I just tried to order one but it seems border protected as far as distribution is concerned....... hopefully they will show up in Canada soon.

You can't order the stock from Brownells because it's ITAR controlled and Magpul doesn't have their export paperwork in order for them however you can order the optic mount that goes with it.
 
The reason Brownells no longer ships Magpul items to Canada is not ITAR (they have the permits) it is because Magpul is protecting their Canadian dealers by banning US dealer sales to Canada. However IRunGuns will ship Magpul items to Canada, they show the optic mount in stock, but not the Backpacker stock.

No, that is not correct. There is no exclusive distributor rights on Magpul products in Canada. It has to do with ITAR. I have discussed this directly with Brownells at length and they will ship Magpul products to Canada if you order them as long as they are not ITAR controlled. Slings, shotgun stocks and mounts are all good to go along with many other products.

Many companies do have exclusive distributor deals in Canada, Blue Force Gear and Safariland come to mind but not Magpul.
 
I would have to agree with Juancarlos, it would explain why they can ship some magpul items and not others.
 
Good news. I spoke with my Canadian compliance guy at Brownells. They will now ship the backpacker to Canada. I put my preorder in for an olive drab version last night.
 
yeah, when I saw on Brownells last month, tried to place order, but could not as stated above. Just tried one more time, there are 2 listings for Backpacker, was able to place order for Black, waiting on confirmation.

You will be good to go. It appears it was an error and they are fine with shipping it now.
