New Marlin - 1895SBL

After fondling one today at Russel Sports I gotta have one. It was very fast to aquire the sights with the ghost ring, balance is good, and the large forend fit my hand well. Everything I want in a lever gun except a tuned trigger, which I would do after the fact. I even like the picatinny rail. I'd say Marlin was paying attention to what many people seem to want in there big bore.

I think the picatinny rail looks cool. It's like a cross-breed between a dangerous game rifle and a zombie blaster. You just never know...

Seriously though, the picatinny rail is so practical. You can pretty much attach any thing to your rifle.

Finally got to handle one today at Le Baron's in Markham, Ontario.

Feels great, very pointable, well balanced. $1,131 less 10% if you're a member ($25/year), so its $1,150 out the door with taxes in Ontario.

I put a photo of it on the family fridge to get my wife used to the idea. Think she'll get it for me for Christmas? LOL

Maybe have one for moose and deer next year. This year it's my M1A and Mauser 8mm.

Marlin was asking members on MarlinOwners (maybe other forums?) a while back about making this rifle, what people wanted right. Stainless, Large loop lever, improved factory sights, full length magazine, laminate stock, were all strong recomendaions over the current 1895G. The top rail is a nice choice as plenty of people also liked using the 'scout' setup/ regular scope or just use the nice peeps.

I'm glad Marlin took the time to do this, they make quatily firearms and it would be nice if other firearm outfits followed their lead in customer research and not only asked but made what people wanted. I dont know what's been going on since Remington took over Marlin this year (last year 08?) but I hope Remington leaves Marlin alone as it is has a good reputation.

BTW, I love the SBL and voted/emailed Marlin for many of its current features already listed, I just can't seem to get rid of my beat up 1895G. Not yet..

It's on my short list.

Cosmetically I wish the rail was nickel/stainless too, but still a sharp and practical rifle.

Anyone who doesn't want the scope rail can send it to me, heck maybe I'll even give ya some money for it :D , same goes for the large loop if ya don't like it.

Looks like I just found the perfect backup rifle to carry, while my son is toting his 1894 44 mag......Hope Mrs V-Max will se it that way........

I thought I had fixed mine up, add a good recoil pad, extend the tube, enlarge the loop, leupold 2-7...

But then they come out with that! Man that pistol grip stock is nice...

Got my new guide gun back after being at the gun smith for 7 weeks now. The rifle would not cycle a round. Now you can feel tight spots when you try to get the next round in. I hope the dealer where i got it will take it back for a new one!

I have the 1895GS in 45/70 and a 336A in 30/30. I find the club frontend very comfortable to hold. I wish I could get the larger loop for both of mine but no one in Canada has them in stock.
