New Marlin 336, are they good again?

Picked up one from DelSelins. A very nice and flawless functioning rifle. Thanks to the D+CGN'ers, shoots cast like a damn too! It really loves the 125 and 100 gr pills. Accuracy is very sweet at 100 yards. I'm Happy!

thanks mad madhatter, i wasn't expecting any positive reviews... i think i'll roll the dice on a new for 450$ at wholesale it's a good price....people are almost asking that for a used one! i was cosidering a win 94 but i want to be able to scope it.

gonna make it 3..haha i bought mine off of my buddy and man the thing is a dream to shoot...adn this i coming from a 1899 win 94 owner..the marlin is awesome!

Levers aren't supposed to have safeties, especially those push button ones that accidently get pushed the wrong way. Marlin really dropped the ball on that one.

The one I bought brand new in august is awesome. Put a leupold 2x7 scope on it....federal fusion 150gr no problems hitting a 3x3" metal plate at 200yards. oh and I got two three pointers with it this season. The only thing I would consider changing on it is the trigger. Its very sloppy!

When buying it, make sure it is a 2012 model. I ran into a few 2011's in which the front sight was not indexed correctly. With a scope, it will not matter, but with open sights at long distances, it will become a pain.

As far as the trigger goes, Mine all wiggle - and one of those is an infamous pre-remington. So not to worry. You are buying a 100% reliable and functioning rifle...not a work of art or a finely tuned benchrest rifle.

My 2012 336 functions flawlessly. My 2011 was a POS. Just make sure your getting a current production rifle!

As for the triggers, marlin levers all have floppy triggers, I've had a mid 70's 336 before that was the same. There are aftermarket trigger available that will do away with the flop if it bugs you that much.

I would really inspect and handle any new Marlin lever action before purchase.

I recently bought a used 45/70 for almost the same price as new and while the new one looked OK compairing beside the used I still went with used one that was SS and JM stamped. The two of the three new ones my local shop got in and sold were issue free according to sales guy but I still went with used. I felt there was peace of mind.

I'd love to get one of those short barrel big looped new 30/30's but I still have doubts as I buy most of my firearms online and will not take a chance buying sight unseen/handled.

I think Remington really hurt a good name in firearms and it could take many more positive threads and customers to build product confidence again.

btw I ordered and installed a XS ghost ring and rail system from Brownells and it looks and shoots SWEET! now I need to do something with the darn trigger that wiggles... f:P:

The only problem I'm having is no one seems to have any in stock! I live in the greater Vancouver area! Wholesale sports can get me one but I'd have to buy mail order. Also wholesale
sells them at a better price, I love my local shop wanstalls ( they dont have any)but every penny counts.

Do these new 2012 Marlins have a serial number that starts with 88****?
I think the formula is "100 - the first two digits" gives you the year of manufacture, so if a gun is a 2012 production year, the serial must start with 88.

model 94's have been able to mount a scope for quite some time now- mines a 93 issue and it's an ae(angle eject) so if that's your only criteria, etc- figure that's at least 20 yarn
