well I bought a new Marlin 336 w a few months back.
It was a "return" never fired. the customer got home, took a good look at it and returned it. So I bought it. I have always liked lever rifles.
I just got around to looking it over "really well" and I have to say it needs a bit of tinkering.
What kind of wood is on this rifle ?
The original wood was dull with poor checkering and very weak grain lines.
I started to re-do the wood...... The wood design disappeared after sanding with the 280 grit sandpaper LOL
It sanded down ridiculously easy with NO grain pattern. YIKES
I'm going to have to put artificial lines back in. The stain took very unevenly ."not sure what I'm going to do with it or how its going to turn out"
NEXT- the front site- well the hood was deformed "poorly made" and made out of wimpy light tin. Sure not like the old ones.
The top of site was bent to the Left.
who ever put it in at the factory didnt have it drifted far enough over either. It was way RIGHT.
you could see "drifting marks on the site as well.
so I picked up a new site and hood for it today. looks great.
It seems to cycle dummy rounds very well. the action is ok but not "fluid" like the earlier models.
The finish on the metal is very dull and unattractive. Not sure what can be done about that.
The barrel and Tube looks "painted" its certainly not bluing.
I'm sure its going to function just fine........it just doesnt look like the old ones.
will post pics when I'm done with it.
