I see that Epps has the ``new for 2011`` 336Y listed with the 16 inch barrel. Has anyone checked these over for fit, finish and function versus the earlier Remlin produced abortions. I`ve heard some horror stories and would like to know first hand before making the trek up. Thanks.

Youth 336Y

Well I got to handle one of the 336Y youth carbines from a local dealer today. Fit and finish was horrible: about a 2mm gap between the front of the receiver and the forewood, lever felt sharp enough on the edges to cut you, the action worked but took a lot of effort to open and close the action, and there were three screws that had been buggered up upon assembly - one at the upper tang, one on the receiver, and one on the front barrel band. Also there were many scratches on the upper tang where the screwdriver must have slipped. All in all, a poor attempt at assembly. The serial number started with ``MM`` and of course it had the REM stamp on the barrel. Perhaps the ``MM`` means it was assembled by Mickey Mouse or some other character. I think I`ll wait for a new batch of production before taking the plunge. Hopefully others out there aren`t as bad as this one.

When I bought my Guide Gun 5 years ago at Epps I didn't like the wood on the first one he brought out (and this was a pure Marlin NOT the bastard gun child of a Corporate merger) so I had them bring another out, it was OK. Dont be afraid to make them pull their inventory out until you find one thats good, I check their inventory all the time and I saw they had lots.

Not very excited by Marlin rifles lately, you really can see that the product is been cheap out, so sad to see an old cie going south...JP.
