New Marlin Quality

I bought two new Marlins in the last six months, the quality is great apart from the heavy trigger . With a happy trigger upgrade they are perfect.

Just tested out 150 rounds on my brand new GS. Apart from some brass being shaved while loading into the tube, ZERO issue.
Loving it more cuz I'm getting massage the I don't get from my wife :)
 
I owned an SBL from the first run and stupidly sold it. Since then I have purchased a 30.30BL and 45/70GBL that were made during the troubled times. Both were returned due to horrible QC issues. ie shredded checkering, canted sights, poor wood to metal fit etc. etc.

Happy to report that the new SBL I received is stellar. Perfect checkering & sight alignement, tight and even wood to metal fit. Even the laminates are perfectly book matched. Accuracy is MOA with Leverevolution. Nice slick action that just needed a bit of stoning to satisfy my ocd. As far as this new SBL is concerned I would say Remlin has their act together.

Marlin 336 stainless was the first rifle I ever purchased and I Iove it. Sights were not aligned and I was shooting to the left, but a couple taps and I was punching centre. I think they are nice rifles but experiences do differ and people get bad eggs. I say if the $$$ is burning a hole in your pocket then go for it. If every rifle they sold off the shelves was junk then they would have been out of business a long time ago. No regrets on my end :)
 
We got two 336W rifles returned back to the store over the last month. In both cases the action was jammed solid (once in the live round in the magazine) with the lever down.

But the guys say he return 2 time at marlin for isue like level jam and sight canted so qc in not top but if your willing to wait they repair it :rolleyes:
 
Bought a 336 in October 15. Have about 400 rounds through it no problem. Took it apart when I got it. Removed all packing grease and oil. Cycled it dry a couple hundred times. Lubed it up again, and put as many rounds through it as I could afford. Smoother than my pre-64 windy. And very accurate.
 
My 336 stainless is surprisingly accurate. I had a compact leupold on it originally ( pic above ) but have now installed a leupold rifleman 12 x which puts it in a different category altogether. I upgraded the trigger with a drop in happy trigger which also made a big difference. At ranges up to 150 yards it compares well with my Swiss K31 and CZ 527 varmint.
 
New abl 1895 is awesome. Fit and finish is great. I could've gone either way, but found a deal on new I was happy with. Still would buy a nice jm if the right deal came along.
 
ask anyone who collects or worked at Marlin and the mid to late 1990s is when QC was at its highest at any time in its history. It was during this time Marlin produced a gun that scared the crap out of Anschultz because it shot as good but cost a 1/3 of the price.
 
Wow - I don't even own a Remington/Marlin but with the amount of ire shown for them on this thread I wonder how it is they sell so many 700s/870s/1895s etc. My local gun store can't keep marlins in stock... must be some happy buyers somewhere.

Managing expectations may be Important. Marlin Is a "hardware" gun - can't expect sako level finishing.
 
Bought a 336 this year for one of my protege, while, it function perfectly fine, you can see that QC is on the lower limit, this great Cie is not the shadow of what it used to be... Economic reality at is best... JP.

OP, the Marlin/Remington story is the total exact opposite of that. Soulless corporate raider buttholes buy Remington and suck its blood leaving a shambling dead husk of a company which staggers around eating good companies and pooping out crap.

What is more funny is that some folk that hate these cheaper American made guns also hate expensive Turkish made guns - a guy can't win. I guess benelli is the only one making guns that fire when you pull the trigger these days..
 
I only own one marlin it is a 1895sbl purchased in last 2-3 months. I absolutely love the gun fit and finish is very nice, shoots well not sure how many rounds down the pipe but out just about every weekend, and no issues. I absolutely love this gun, that being said never fired a jm stamped gun. But I also couldn't be any happier with my remlin.

I bought a 444 marlin and a 45/70 in the late 90's. Late last year I bought a 30-30, the quality is exactly the same.
