New Marlin XT-.22MVSR Problem

Well today I went with all intentions on purchasing a Savage 93FVSS. While once I got to handle one, I was dissapointed. It seemed too short for me, and not really heavy at all. Seemed kind of cheap in my opinion. Once I got to handle the new Marlin XT I was sold....

So I bought the Marlin XT 22MVSR and was super pleased with the fit and finish. I get it home and wanted to see how it cylces ammo. So I loaded a mag, and went to cylce it through... Well NO way it will load a shell. It seems the mag needs to be pushed up more to cycle. The shell hits the bottom of the chamber unless the mag is pushed up. Sometimes it seems to cycle ok... I tried it fast, then slow, but all in all it appears the mag needs to insert further up.... Any ideas??

I tried researching IF anyone has had a similar problem and I came up empty handed.

So my questions are.... Has anyone had an issue with the XTs or is it just a break in period??

Tomorrow I'll post up some pics, so you can actually see what I mean.

Not a break in period. It sounds like there is a problem with the feed ramp or the feed lips on the mag. Sad to see what has happened to Marl..., Remingtons quality control. Sad.
Id take it back to where you bought it from. Sad.

Same thing on a Marlin 982

I had the same problem on a new Marlin 982 I bought a month ago. I took mine apart and found the screw that holds the magazine guide was loose. That didn't completely fix the probel but made it so it would feed more often then not. I did end up just bending/pushing the guide forward (towards the muzzle) just a hair's distance. That fixed the problem, now it feeds 99% of the time. And if doesn't it usually something I did wrong.

Hope this at least points you in the right direction.

Ok, so at least I know I'm not alone.. As far as I understand the mags are the same. I'll have a look at what you said tomorrow....

OK, well problem appears to be fixed.

I posted over on RFC, and they told me to bend the magazine guide forward just a hair. Worked like a charm. I put the 7rd mag in half way and gave it just a little push forward. I loaded it and tried it. Cycled flawlessly!

Why didn't they do a simple fix like that at the factory???!!!

Glad to hear you fixed it! It still peeves me to know that the rifle Probably wasn't even tested for function at the factory... And if it was, they sent it out faulty.

I agree it's funny that it was sent out like that. I don't think it's a real common problem, or I would of found a bit more info on the net when I searched. It was a minor prob, and quick fix so I'm alright with it. Now I can't wait to get my scope mounted and fire some rounds off!!!!!!!

would you mind doing a range report? Ive been eyeing an XT-22 and want to see how they shoot before I spend the money. If they can compete with Savage rimfire accuracy then I just may pick one up.

I will for sure. All I have rite now is Federal Premium 30g Hollow Points, and CCI 40g FMJ.

One problem... I have to deciede on if I'm going to remove my scope off my 10\22 and put it on the XT or wait... The rings I bought for my scope were one size too big... Well the guy that sold them to me grabbed the wrong size and I never checked. The store was 3hrs from where I live, so I called and they are mailing me the right set of rings.. With Canada Post I'm sure it will take a week or so, and I'm really anxious to get this beauty out....

BUT either way, I'll post up my results using the ammo I have on hand. I'd wanted to grab a box of Hornady 33g V-Max but they were sold out. I've read that performs really well in some .22 wmr. I'll be sure to post up some pics today as well.

Got the scope mounted today. I'll be getting out to sight it in later this week.

I experienced the same small feed issues with the 17.hmr marlin xt, some small tweeking made it go away no problem. comes with two magazines, the smaller one seemed to feed better right out of the box, but in the end they both work well. I really like mine, nice accuracy, I hate my old 10/22 now. ( naw not really) :) nicegun for the right price. enjoy.

Ive Also got a Marlin XT17V and have had only a few issues with it not feeding, with my problem, the mag wasn't seated in far enough.

I wasn't paying much attention to the ammunition either but I got a bunch of Winchester Super X at MalWART and found that of the 20 or so that I loaded I had the most trouble with them not feeding right. I had one that looked squished, and another one that had a really thick rim and I couldn't even close the bolt on it. I would suspect that some ammunition is a little longer than spec and it might cause feed issues as well. I thought it was a good deal on the ammo but I guess you get what you pay for.
