new marlins 45 70 any issues

If you can go to a shop and look at one, I have 1895 that shoots great but its the 2nd one sent to me and the stock is lacking a little.

The first one i had the front sight fell off after few rounds, plastic spacer betweek stock and recoil pad was broken, checkering on stock was crap. I sent it back and retailer paid for return shipping.

Second one checkering still crap but rest is ok and shoots good so am keeping it.

From most of what I have heard they are getting a little better, but QC is still quite iffy. Recommended to get your hands on one first.

On the plus side the importer (Gravel) is easy to deal with if you get a hunk of crap.

I bought the guide gun last year and I'm happy with it. I have two older Marlins( both made in 1978) and the new ones are built different for sure, but for a production gun I'm very happy with it. Wood to metal is good action is good. I put a Skinner sight on the receiver and it shot very well with the factory front sight.

I would suggest that you actually handle and examine any Remlin that you buy.
Check the wood to metal fit, quality of fit and finish, and overall impression.
Check to make sure that the sights are actually at 12:00 on the barrel and not canted to one side slightly.
If possible, operate the action to assess the smoothness or roughness.
Check that the rear sight is not installed crooked or loose in the dovetail or lacking in tension on the elevator.

I bought one in the middle of the Remlin QC crisis where they were putting out absolute junk. I handled it in store, although they never let me cycle it. Rifle is pretty good fit and finish, wood quality is excellent, blueing is top notch too. There was some machine marks left on the internals, none that probably would have caused issues, but I took the time to smooth and polish none-the-less.

The only glaring defect is inside the barrel. Upon checking the bore with a bore light, the grooves look really rough! It's a microgroove barrel, but it still doesn't look as it should. The rifle still shoots very accurately and has never had a problem, but I know my resale on it will suffer greatly just because the barrel looks crappy.

Doesn't matter to me much as I don't anticipate ever selling it, but something to consider.

My barrel is shot - 2011 model?

I am hoping there is a silent recall - there is barely any rifling. Bought it used about 5 years ago - I am much smarter today.

I need to document with pics and measurements - send to Gravel.
