New Marstar NP29, initial trial & photos

Since you are discussing the beavertail safety, maybe you could answer a question for me. My only 1911 was a norinco commander (.45) from armco, and the one complaint I had with it was that the grip safety would bite into my hand after several mags.

Would this likely have been an issue with the design of the safety, or my (lack of) technique?

Hi there,

The Norinco Commander does not really have a Beavertail safety, if it did you would have had great difficulty experiencing hammer bite. If you have large hands the grip safety on the 1911's will bite you and it certainly isn't your technique.

I've been bitten by 1911s. There is no way that I could get bitten by the NP29, with the beavertail and Commander style hammer. Its not a great oversized setup, though. Quite nicely done.

Okay,

Stop that shzt. Your praising of the NP29 is gonna run the next slowboat from China dry. I'm gonna be pizzed off since I won't be able to snag my second NP29 for my lockup.

Now all kinds of other CGNutters are gonna jump on the bandwagon and injure themselves. Let's not tell anybody else what a good value these 1911's in 9mm are... just like we tried to tell people NOT to BUY ONE, but TWO of them. yuk yuk.

cheers,
Barney

You know, a full sized 1911 in 9mm makes a lot of sense. Its larger and heavier than it needs to be, and this really contributes to shooting properties. Solid and substantial in the hand, with very manageable recoil. Should contribute to longevity as well. The pistol isn't as accurate as my breathed on M28 Smith, or K-22, but then again its an out of the box autoloader. Had to tap the rear sight over slightly to centre the group. The group now forms just right for a centre hold.
Tried 10 of the 1948 CZ 9mms formerly sold very cheaply, loaded on 8 rd. stripper clips, smg ammunition. This stuff just doesn't work very well in some pistols (BHP, S&W) because of hard primers. Nary a glitch, grouped nicely. Bit snappier than my handloads, though.
No problem loading with 10 rds, drop one in the chamber, 9 more in the magazine.

Problem is when you do your reload in IPSC/IDPA you are now down to 9 rounds in the replacing mag.

Darn I wish somebody would make a mag to hold ten rounds.

I suppose that soft market demand is the reason that a 10 rd. magazine isn't being made. Most single stack 1911 type pistols aren't 9mm. Could certainly be done if the market was there.

Yes that is what I thought too but with the boomers getting older the 9MM in 1911 format is very soft shooting and believe me is extremely accurate. I have four 1911's in .45acp two of which have been cutomized significnatly. Timed or slow fire I still shoot better with the 9MM 1911. Not because of the gun but because of less recoil.

Much easier on the elbows and wrists.

I think the problem lies with the tapered cse of the 9MM.

I contacted Tripp REsearch and they are coming out with a 10 round mag for the 9MM 1911's in the spring of 2007, watch for them.

Have about 450 rounds through my NP29 now. It is a fine shooter, very easy to manage. Delivered cost, including taxes and post was about $400. 5 MetalForm magazines came to about $90, got a pair of Hogues from Hungry for $20. Will install new sights, perhaps $30. Say $540,all up. Pretty hard to beat for all new.

Hey Tiriaq, where do you get your MetalForm magazines? Thanks.
