I have a weekend course with FAC for my non-restricted and restricted tomorrow.

I've never shot a gun in my life. :eek:

I decided I want to get into target shooting casually, and I plan on serving in the Canadian Forces at some point in my life, so I don't want to show up knowing nothing about firearms.

If I had the money I'd get an AR15, TAR21, and a nice 1911, maybe a Kimber. As it stands though I don't have the money, so I'll probably get an SKS and a Norinco 1911 to start.

Welcome, once you start shooting you will be hooked. You mentioned AR-15, and SKS, another good one is the CZ 858. Some one is going to hit you up to join the CSSA, so I might as well get it over with right now:D

Hey man, you'll absolutely love the world of target shooting.
The CZ and ARs etc are all great, but pricey rifles. To me, the best bang for the buck is the SKS and if you have a bit more to spend get yourself a Norinco M305 (M14), then you have something really cool.
 
Welcome, look into grabbing a Norinco M14S (.308 win / 7.62 NATO). They go for around $500, accurate, reliable, and the best BANG for your buck. Owned mine for about 4-5 years with ZERO problems.
