I was perusing the hunting regulations yesterday and found this:

-no cartridge with an empty case length less than 32 mm - all rimfire and most handgun cartridges
-no centre fire cartridge calibre .17 or less
-no 22 hornet, 22 k hornet, 218 Bee, 25-35 Win, 30 Carbine, 32-20 Win, 357 Magnum, 41 Remington Magnum, 44-40 Win or 45 Colt.

Not sure quite when that changed but must be within the last year. My recollection is it used to be caliber not less than .23 and no handgun cartridges or 30 Carbine. Seems like 223 Remington, 22-250 and others are now OK.

Shot placement and ethical hunting being paramount, what would you choose given the new regs?

Ya, old news. But whoever comes up with these "restrictions" is a retard and clearly knows nothing about ballistics.

25-35 is totally usable as a deer cartridge! Also the 357 and 41 Magnum and a properly reloaded 44-40 in a rifle length barrel are stone cold killers. Doesn't make sense

Same goes for the 45 Colt. Theres not an animal in the province that will stop that bullet when properly loaded.

Is this for all big game, or just deer? Some of those cartridges would be fine for deer at close range, others I agree should not be used. None would be suitable for moose or bear. 25-35 being on that list doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

What would I choose? lol. Something that's not on that list.

Here in Sask every hunter has an HAL account tied to their email address.
So when are the Sask Gov going to start emailing everyone with the new laws at the beginning of the season?

What new laws are you referring to?
These caliber restrictions are not new.

im fully aware these aint new rules
but every year the laws change,do you think it would be more efficient if the gov emails them, instead of like the OP stumbles across an old law change how many years later?

for example, they allowed wolf tags for fort la corne this year,no one noticed the reg changes and we would of spent
a serious amount of time thinning the fckrs out up there.
