New minimum caliber requirements in SK

im fully aware these aint new rules
but every year the laws change,do you think it would be more efficient if the gov emails them, instead of like the OP stumbles across an old law change how many years later?

for example, they allowed wolf tags for fort la corne this year,no one noticed the reg changes and we would of spent
a serious amount of time thinning the fckrs out up there.

You want the govt to kiss you good night and tuck you in too?

You admit to knowing the regulations regularly change, seems like the obvious answer is to look into that.

Literally from page 2 of the 2023-24 Hunting and Trapping Guide:

What's new for 2023
Expanded wolf hunting opportunities: A guided wolf licence has been added to
offer non-resident hunters an opportunity to harvest a wolf as an add-on to select
guided big game licences. This licence will help support the outfitting industry and
provide greater opportunities for outfitters. Opportunities for Saskatchewan
residents have expanded to align with the changes. See page 33 for details.

And then on Page 33 (emphasis mine):
Wolf - (Saskatchewan residents only)
WMZs 43, 47-50, 53-76 and Athabasca Sand Dunes, Clearwater
River, Great Blue Heron, Greenwater Lake, Lac la Ronge,
Meadow Lake, Narrow Hills, Porcupine Hills, Wildcat Hill and
Clarence-Steepbank Lakes provincial parks, in Bronson
Forest, Nesslin Lake and Round Lake recreation sites and in
Fort a la Corne Wildlife Management Unit

Took me less than 2 minutes...

Is this for all big game, or just deer? Some of those cartridges would be fine for deer at close range, others I agree should not be used. None would be suitable for moose or bear. 25-35 being on that list doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

What would I choose? lol. Something that's not on that list.

Synopsis simply says big game. And yes, big difference between an antelope or white tail and some of the bigger game animals.

Read the Hunting and Trapping guide like everyone else, it's all in there. They change laws quite often, usually covered in the first part of the guide.

Some of those cartridges are fine when properly loaded like others have stated
but what is sold across the store counter is likely the limiting factor, not many hunting bullets let alone hunting power factor loads are sold at the local CT

I just opened the synopsis to see what the fuss was about. I like the matter of fact statements about big game populations, pressures, and predictions for future licence numbers. The biologists and managers are being honest with the hunters, whether it is popular or not.

I like - Veteran habitat certificate and licences .......Free
Interesting - different from the last time I hunted the flatlands, Canadian resident draw.....$180
Interesting - Canadian resident black bear hunters may hunt with or without an outfitter.
Interesting - People born after January 1, 1971 must hold a certificate from a recognized firearm safety/hunter education course to apply for and hold a Saskatchewan game or fur licence. (I thought that was always a requirement.)
Interesting - it is unlawful in a park or on Crown land, feed wild ungulates (e.g. deer, elk, moose) between January 1 and July 31
Interesting - During a big game season, a person can hunt wild boar (without a valid big game licence) if they are not accompanying a licensed big
game hunter. Permission is required before pursuing wild boar on private land.
Huh? - Harvest ledgers seem like a new thing. When did they come in?

At the SWF convention they passed a resolution allowing 25-20 Winchester, .30 Carbine, .32-20 Winchester, .357 Magnum, .41 Remington Magnum, 44-40 Winchester, or .45 colt. I doubt the Sask Government will listen.

I believe that the regulations for big game cartridges were based upon 1,000 foot pounds of energy at the muzzle for factory cartridges.
As I understand it, SERM was presented with the requirements by the Minister, and had to create a regulation to implement them.
