New model 700s. What's the deal with this?

Thats part of Remington's new double-recoil lug design, one infront of the action, one behind!

But seriously, I have no idea. It doesn't look very good though...

Might mean something, or be related to a manufacturing process.
Have you ever noticed that on the surface of the left hand locking lug, the surface may be smooth, or there may be a dot punch mark, or a groove?
This is related to Remington's equivalent of the No. 4 Lee Enfield numbered bolt head system. The M700 boltheads are a separate piece, brazed and pinned to the bolt body, made in slightly different lengths, in order to facilitate headspacing.

I have 2 AAC's, one 223 and a 308, one has a C stamp on the bottom of the receiver, the other an S...took me a while to figure out what they mean lol.
C=carbon S=stainless. I guess black oxide works equally well on both materials, and someone grabbed the wrong one somewhere along the line.

I've got an E serial number or 2 around with a single groove. Never caused me any concern. Don't know why it's there though.

Are you saying that one of your AAC's is stainless?

One of the receivers seems to be yes, with the S stamp, still has the black oxide finish. You will usually see a C or S under the bolt handle as well identifying what it is made (cast) from.
