 Hello to all here! I just found you and had to join from here in "lush" Nevada, USA.:p I lied a bit about our moose population, as I killed off the last Sand Moose about 45 years ago near Winnemucca.

I am happy to join you, as I love your country and hunted it as a very young man of 13 for the first time. My late dad and I took two very nice woodland caribou in the mountains above the Burnt River in Northern BC.

Now, MANY years later, I would like to tackle a moose, although I might opt to shoot it, instead.;) I have always had a desire to hunt Alberta and need your advice as to where and with whom. As I am now a bit older, I need to keep price and rigors of the hunt in mind. I'm not cheap or afraid of a hard walk, just realistic.

Well, Hello Again.:)

Kindest Regards,
L2S

Hey dude ,you're welcome here . You might want to go down into the hunting section . Lots of fellas from Alberta there and every one has a different opinion . If ya want to get real popular , real quick , start a bear defense thread .:D

welcome aboard! :D

when you have time, you might want to visit the CCW discussion forum - a subset of Discussions & Alerts. you then might want to have a chat with your state representative.

get a big moose!:D but remember ,the bigger they are, the more work it is to pack them out...:)

Pack them out?? No no no.....just chain them to the quad and drag their heavy ass to the truck/trailer!!;)

Seriously, welcome aboard!!

Good luck!

Howdy and welcome,

Spent a fair of time in your beautiful state. Nevada's countryside I think is vastly unappreciated.

As to moose however, well I believe that before the whiteman came the local Piutes (sp) hunted the California Big Horn Moose to extinction. They ranged from Tonopah to Lake Tahoe and with the invention of high powered basalt projectiles rather than the old flint tips, they were doomed.

Like I said glad to have you aboard, feel free to swap hunting stories with us at any time but don't try to bulls**t us, this site is a no-B.S. zone.:D

If you want a moose, come to Newfoundland...we actually ARE the Moose Capital of the World!:) Highest moose population density in the world. Just had to drive a moose out of the flower beds this weekend! Here on the Rock we call 'em "speedbumps". Glad to hear you aren't afraid of walking! A couple of days tramping the bogs and barrens will work the kinks out for you!:) Welcome aboard CGN as well!

Thanks to all! I have a little house in Libby, Montana, where there are a lot of moose...but very few tags. I'll be moving there in a couple of years and venturing on up just a few miles into Canada for some fishing. Its Too bad that 9/11 made going on up Lake Koocanusa into Canada impossible now.

I'm already enjoying myself here...THANKS...

Welcome to CGN. I've read some of you posts on 24HR and enjoyed them. :)

Now .... on to moose. The most moose would be found in Newfoundland and the biggest moost would be in Northern BC/Yukon. I've been to NFLD a couple of times and in the Yukon once, where I saw a tape on a moose that measured 75".

..............He was my guest, and it took us an hour to get him settled down. :D

I remember when I saw my first 70 plus. Talk about exciting! It looked like it was 85", because the body was smaller than usual. :runaway:

Ted.

This is quite true! I was out coyote hunting 2 weeks ago on the Salmonier Line, saw 13 moose and 7 Caribou before lunch!

I just got out of the hospital after surgery and am behind in my replies...

Newfoundland has always interested me, as I believe there is some good bird shooting to be had, as well as wonderful moose hunting. I sure would appreciate any further advice regarding hunting there. I have to watch my $$$, as surgery gutted my wallet even more than it did my innerds.

Would I be well advised to take a combo gun in 12ga and 9,3X74R or drilling in 12/12/30-06...both with good scopes in QD mounts to do some bird/big game hunting? I hear there are a couple of ptarmigan left there...;)

I'm a westerner now, in Southern BC, but I lived in the Maritimes 16 years. Make sure that gut is well healed before you look at "goin' downeast". Those Newfies will have you laughing and Hootin' so hard you'll bust it wide open again! They're great people, and avid outdoorsmen.

welcome!
