New Moose Gun, 300 win Mag, 300 ultra mag or 325 WSM

300 rum is the way to go that what i use have shot the 300 win mag its ok but with the 300rum you get more range dont care for that short mag stuff

I agree, the 300 Ultra will allow you to aim right at a moose at 700 meters and drop him with one shot. A 300 Win Mag is simply a 400 yard gun. Moose are almost always shot at 1/4 mile or more.

or punctuation it seems

you ####er, you beat me to it :):):):):)

If you use 165's, you can get allmost 850 on a dead hold...
I was discussing the load data the other day with Captian Deadly, and he assured me of it

Say your friend forgot his ammo at home would he have a really hard time finding 300 Rem Ultra Mag or 300 Win Mag up north in some general store?

Does your friend hunt in thick bush or will he have the opportunity to hunt clear cuts or over water?

These are questions that I think need to be answered before he decides.

Then again if his heart is set on a 300 of some sort then there is no rational that can be given.:)

I'm getting a new moose gun but non of your choices. I've decided on the 300WSM. May I ask what your reasoning is on eliminating this cal? Why buy 300 winmag when you can buy the shorter action 300wsm?

man that was a really killer first post and all i totally agree on your gun selection and think that a 375 rum might even be better because you can get a 235gr hornady moving at like 3400 fps and make sure you get a night force 8.5 -55x72 with those ultra high premium light tollie rings cause the recoil is minimal if you rest the butt of the gun against your bumper but don't use the door because that left a big dent and you can aim dead on to anything with a pbr of bigger than a chipmunk out o 873 yards and it will flatten them on the spot or maybe they will only take a step or two maybe:evil:

I personally would by a Kimber 8400 in 300 Win. Mag. and top it with a Leupold 2.5-8x36 in Talley on piece low rings. Lots of magnification, it keeps the sight picture low and the scope away from your face. The weight would be near perfect for a hunting rifle in that category of recoil.
And I would probably use TSX's (165-200gr; trust me I already proved it can be done, and with minimal meat damage)cause I'm like that, and if you have a problem with that, talk to my counselor;).

And to answer the "why not a WSM"; because the 300 Win. Mag. is the modern day 300 H&H, it's classy:cool:.
