Congratulations! Can’t go wrong with the 300WM.

I have the same configuration in Browning A-bolt shooting 200gr Partitions. I am looking forward to our moose hunting in October.

thanks. I'm looking forward to it too.:) We applied today for our tag, and while I was in the moose mode, I thought I'd post this.

despite being made of too much poly, and too big of a scope, it shoudl kill moose as good as anything :D good luck this fall, if you're so lucky enough to get drawn

Agreed on the scope thing about it being too big. After a short while, you will wish it was a nice, small, 2x7.

BUT .... Nice gun anyways :)

Very nice rig :)
The only thing I might have changed is 300wsm instead of 300wm
....or not
And a 1.5-5 or 2-7 Elite :) but then twice now I have walked into a flock of wolfs up north & they don't stand still very long :p Drew blood first time & got one second :D

Well, I had a 50mm on my other tikka, and it worked great (no black eyes either;) ) . I was going to put my 2-7x32 on it but that would drop the weight the brink of too light.

As for poly, well I've grown attached to it.:p

In the area I hunt, we're guaranteed a tag for 3 guys in pool 1.

Agreed except for the L A R G E scope. Most Tikkas are tack drivers. My wife has one she stole from me that is 30 years old and it still outshoots me. I don't like tupperware stocks, but it should work okay. Load her full of 168 or 180 TSX's and H4831SC powder, and get to the swamp!

Looks just fine to me, scope and all. Bigger scope optic means better light gathering for those tricky shots around legal shooting light or just plain foggy days around the swamp, confirming the number fo tines, etc..

She's a light rig, recoil will be...noticable. I can say that because I have a Tikka Lite in 300 WSM. She does buck a bit!

nice setup,..if you can get past the plastic:D .

scopes don't gather light,..they transmit light...any objective over 40 is just marketing hype....quality of glass is more important than size....contrary to poular belief...size does not always matter:)
exit pupil size at max magnification is way more important than objective size...a 40mm scope would have looked just right...shorter and mounted lower..

but I'm sure it will still kill a moose...;)

and your choice of cartridge is a good one....someone mentioned the WSM in the same rifle..no point in getting a long action rifle in a short cartridge..:)

Rick...shameful post:D In some instances this may be correct. However, improved resolution is another added benefit. In addition, try using 20+ power in poor light (early morning, late evening....especially if your in th Rockies when the sun is still high in the sky....

The differences are generally not earth shattering but in quality optics there is a difference pending the arrangement.

Penalties of large diameter optics - high $$$, heavier, and bulky!

....Leupolds latest competition series target scopes have a larger objective for a reason and its not for the ladies.......No matter how you use a 40mm with a 20+ power scope it isn't on par with a 50 or 56mm objective - by quality producers.

You left out the fact that it must be mounted higher which usually results in a poor cheek position on the stock. This can be even more of a problem with a rifle with substancial recoil as the stock will often slap the cheek upon recoil. This can get annoying and even painful after several shots at the bench.

Your right! But the only time I've experienced annoying snap was when I had a deluxe Sako. 40mm obj fit perfectly on the rifle with the rings. You couldn't get it any lower and inorder to center your eye you had to drive your cheek into the stock and ouch when you pulled the trigger. When you went to the next ring height you actually had enough clearance for a 50mm and no more slap...

Rifle to shooter fit can be critical.....

boy, you guys are awful hard on the 50mm.;) I don't find a big difference between it and my 40mm, (other than 1 cm:p ) and the weight diff balances nicely. cost is pretty well the same on both.
