new mosin with afew Q's

I just picked up a new mosin today at the gun center.

its numbers matching but not the bolt. and no electro pencil.

I have some q's about these pics. whats with the missing liners In the stock and the XX black/rust spots(on both sides on the reciever? also there is a second number under the barrel. any thing special?

The x's are refurb markings indicating the rifle has been refurbished. Looks like those rust spots are parts of the reciever where it was pressed up against moisture in the stock, rusted or pitted, then covered with some lovely russian refurb paint (which is easily removed by gun cleaner, alcohol, etc. so unless you want to remove it, dont spill anything on it). Looks like their usually shotty cover up job didnt fix the issue and its rusting through again.

The number underneath the barrel can just be a manufacturers mark, and the missing liners can be anyones guess.

Many wartime produced rifles had no liners at all.

My understanding is a lack of a sling slot liner indicates a late war production stock.
