New Mossberg 4x4...anyone?

I understand the inexpensive/ you get what you pay for perception of Mossberg products.

It is one of the reasons that I stayed away from their SGs in the first place. However, I have spoken with several duck/ geese hunters and they have had execellent experiences with their Mossbergs. These are hunters who only used Berrettas and Benellis before the 903/935s came out.

I was wondering if the 4x4 was an improved version of the ATR (like the 935/930 is an improved version of a prior Mossberg design).

Did you guys use either rifle (on the range or out hunting)?

Mossberg's philosophy has always been "more gun for the money", and IMHO this is true in their rifles, and shotguns today.

Besides the .22 rimfire rifle that is made in Brazil by Magtech, but that is another issue.

Guys in our area have the ATRs and have had zero problems with them.
I don't know anyone who has the 4x4 though...Yet. :)

handle a Savage package rifle with a very similar price tag and then handle the ATR, the difference is there. Detach mag vs blind mag, ATR has a plastic trigger guard that is part of the stock (gag). Larger cartridge selection with the Savage line too. Its been almost a year since I handled the ATR but I remember it turning me off.

When I handled a 4x4 last month I was expecting an ATR type feel, but the action actually suprised me. The stock however as I mentioned before is disgusting.

I have handled both the ATR and the Savage, and the Savage I handled did not have a floor plate or a detach mag...one had to partially cycle the rounds to empty it of ammo.

I also found both stocks about the same in quality and fit.
The one thing that this Savage had that I liked was the accutrigger.

But I'd still save my pennies and get a Sako. :D

I had made reference to the Savage package rifle, which the non accutrigger model comes with a detach mag

Whoo Hooo... I can't wait... another entry level poverty package rifle.
I wonder how it performs in 4 wheel drive?

Which Mossberg rifle have yo had the chance to try out REDD?

What exactly was not to your liking (ex. not inaccurate enough, any parts failing, etc...)?

Savage has a few different package rifles. The model most dealers carry is the 111FCXP3 which has a detachable mag and no accu-trigger ( I have one in 7mm Rem Mag). All of the rest of their package series rifles have blind mags and Accu-triggers, Calum and TB are discussing to very different package rifles.

Is there any thing specific that you didn't like about the feel of the 4X4 stock TB? No explanation needed for disliking the 100 ATR if it has a trigger guard molded into the stock. I have a few older Mossbergs and a fairly new Model 500 shotgun and have been happy with all of them

handled the synthetic 4x4, had the big hole in the rear of the stock and vented forend. Looks like a mall ninja 10-22 but even worse. Feel, well it is tupperware, pretty much a plastic ugly POS stock. The walnut and laminates arent quite as bad looking due to the fact they at least have a rear buttstock, but they still have the vented forend. On a hunting rifle, its pointless, and to me, it doesnt even look cool.
