Just got out to the trap range today to try my new 930 (wood/blue, 28" barrel.) I haven't owned or fired a shotgun since I was a teenager so I wasn't sure what to expect.

The gun proved very satisfactory. It's well balanced, points easily and is simple to operate. The slide safety on the back of the receiver is particularly convenient. I fired 75 rounds through it and it worked flawlessly; no jams or other problems. With trap loads the recoil was negligible. I suppose the weight, semi-auto action and thick recoil pad also help reduce the kick. I think even my wife would feel comfortable firing this gun, and she's fairly sensitive to recoil.

Managed to turn most of the clays into clouds of dust, but enough escaped to ensure a continued long term and entertaining challenge. Anyway, I'm delighted with this thing and it seems like a very viable option for a low cost, all round shotgun.

I thought the same thing when my wife shot the browning. She ended up with a bruise on her bicept and vowed never to shoot a 12 again.

Glad you like your gun.

I know...sigh. The same thing happened when a friend offered her a shot with an O/U. She's been twitchy about anything larger than a .22 ever since. She probably didn't have it tucked into her shoulder. I'm just hoping that if I can get her to try again, holding it correctly this time, she'll appreciate how mild the recoil actually is.

JimV, that's been my experience as well. Mossberg did a nice job on the gun. The trigger group looks pretty light duty so my grandchildren may not be shooting it, unless I pick up a complete trigger group now and have it handy when the original wears out. Hmmm . . .

just got one a few months ago in 28" camo mossy oak new break up and ordered the cantilever barrel (should be in soon) i have nothing but good things to say about this gun so far by far the best gun for the money

i used to use a 930 for duck and waterfowl shooting, very nice, i traded up for a fabarm H38 lion hunter with a 24" barrel this year though, wouldnt go back now.. but i would recommend the 930 to anyone looking to buy their first semi/first shotgun
