Okay 2nd time out with my Mossberg 500 2 barrel combo, same ammo as before but now every 5 or 6 shots it just clicks and doesn't fire. The shell has a small indent from the firing pin but not enough to fire it maybe? At first I thought it was just a dud shell but it doesn't fire almost every 5 rounds. I have not took apart the gun yet what should I look for ? Any ideas on what could be wrong would be much appreciated, I thought mossburg's were reliable...

I know this sounds lame but make sure it is well cleaned. My new Maverick had a lot of cosmo in the system and that doesn't help with cycling. If that is not the issue I would suggest that you send it back for warranty repair.

I had a similar problem on my Maverick 88. I removed the trigger group to find a plastic coil, leftovers from tapping threads in the plastic housing, between the hammer and the pin.

My mossberg 535 started to jam after 50 rounds. I had to pull the pump hard to eject the round because it was stuck there after firing. Maybe we are not lucky with mossberg Brendan, or the brand isn't reliable.

id say give it a good full cleaning, i had mine do that a bit at first, after a few hundred shells through it it is broken in and now works awesome, just take out that one way safety screw, replace and locktite it and dont loose the ball bearing that is under that slide lock

So I took it apart and found that the rear pin on the trigger assembly was half out and crooked, it holds back a spring so maybe that was it, Ill have to wait and see next time I am out. Not really impressed that it just kinda fell half way out.

How was the pin on the trigger assy pin out while it was in the gun? Seems like some mossburgs might have things loosten off in the first few hundred after that its a workhorse

My brother is having the same problem. Mossberg 500 combo. After about a 100 rds won't fire anything. We have broken this thing down and scrubbed and soaked everything to no avail. Seem this is a common enough problem to demand a recall. Has anybody found a permanent fix for this.

Well if it happens again I guess loctite on the pin ? Lead loader it was half out so it was crooked. I'm not sure if that is the problem , have yet to try it out again..

Loctite shouldn't be necessary as the pin is held into the trigger group and receiver by friction fit "springs". As for your firing issues, I am thinking that it has to do with the firing pin spring and washer assembly. Take a good look at the bolt.

I think we might have solved are problem. After some careful inspection a bur was found on the firing pin which in the right spot prevented the pin from sliding all the way in and making a full hit. The bur was filed down and fired 17 out of 18 after. The one misfire could have been a racking error.
