new mossy tactical or used vtr?

I've never owned/shot either one, but I've held them both. I favor metal (or mostly metal) over mostly plastic, even though I'm not a huge Remington 597 fan. So, my vote~VTR.

i have a moss with 2x 25 round clips and its a load of fun, never shot a VTR :(
either way it sounds like a good deal (if you are getting a 25 rounder for the moss)

Got my Mossy from Prairie Gun traders just lately, not sure if they still have em. I was surprised how reliable they were. cycled three types of ammo no issues....even cheap federal stuff. Cant comment on the vtr.

For the price of a VTR , it had better be well built.

I'd be asking or at least leary about the deal you've come across.
Remington QC isn't what it used to be.

I did have an issue with the screw at the front of the carry handle.
It stripped out by , I believe, from tightening the scope mount down too tight.
I drilled out the screw hole and put in a 3/4" nut/bolt...easy fix and it doesn't look bad or out of place. The mount is more secure than ever now.

A new Mossy Tact will have a warranty with it and with a ton of accessories added it's still cheaper than a new VTR ( definately cheaper than a SR22 ) BNIB
I'm working on 4000 rds with my Mossy ...all fun

Well, compared to the prices in the EE for vtr's, this one is competitive, if not much better as it is on par as far as extras go with the others for sale. However, I am thinking about going with the mossberg now, thinking about warranty, etc. I know the vtr has been around longer, but I can find less negative comments about the mossy then the vtr. Plus, I've already purchased an offset flashligh mount for a picatinny rail.....so my hands are tied!

I owned both at one time. The Mossberg works, looks cool and is cheaper. That said, I only have the VTR now. I think it's a much nicer gun.

The VTR feels like a real gun. The parts are made of metal and all the accessories like stocks and forends bolt onto it. It has a heavy target barrel, 30-round magazines are cheap (~$20), upgrades are available to lighten the trigger. I think it's easily as nice as the SR-22.

The Mossberg is all plastic -but there's really nothing wrong with that. There will be visible seams, takedown involves lots and lots of screws, extra mags seem to be hard to come by, and there aren't any upgrades available. However, it does have a railed forend and a carry handle, so bolting on cool accessories is an option. just keep in mind that EVERYTHING is plastic, including the rail for the optic. Since the hand guard on the VTR doesn't have rails, its another $80 expense to add a floating forend if that sort of thing tickles your fancy. Also I assume you are pricing out the VTR with the fixed A2 stock, whereas the Mossberg is adjustable.

Ultimately the difference is price and what you're going to do with it. WSS sells the Mossberg for $229. The VTR is around $400. Adding in the rails, stock, a scope etc. there's a significant price gap between the two which is reflected in the product you get. If you just want to plink and send a few hundred rounds downrange, either will be suitable. If you think you want to play around with AR parts and squeeze extra accuracy out of your humble 22, then the VTR is a better rig.

Basically my conclusion is the Mossberg is a much better value if you're happy with it in stock form. I prefer the weight and feel of the VTR and I'm sure anyone who likes to tinker will be much happier with it down the road.

mossberg/VTR?

I own both. I have not owned the guns lond enough to get an idea on how they would work over time. With that said, the Mossberg is all plastic.
It's a great plinker, with 25rd magazines, but I'am guessing that, with time, the screws will strip out.
The VTR, I find, is the more accurate of the two. 30rd magazines also add to the fun.
If you can only have one, take the VTR.
Be a gun nut, get both.
