Marstar sent me a pair of their new enhanced 1911's. One 2-tone and one blue.
Other than the hard chrome on the 2 tone, they are the same pistols.
Simple 3 dot sights.
Serrrated trigger.
Short hammer spur.
Very nice beaver tail. This pistol won't bite.
Trigger is crisp, but a bit heavy.
Grip panels are checkered hard rubber on both.
Both slides have a nice flat sight plane on top.
Both slides have the front slide serrations for grasping the slide. First time I handled a gun with this feature. I like it.
Both have a long spring guide rod. (No buffer.)
The "blue" slide and "blue" frames are actually black. I would like to know what finish it is. Black is ok, but I would prefer a dark blue.
I took both apart to wipe off excess oil. The inside is better finished than an earlier Nork I have and even bettter than my old commercial Colt.
The all blue one has sharp edges on the slide and frame that needed a light stoning to break. The chromed model had a softer edge on the frame and slide, even though the slide is otherwise identical to the blue model. I can understand the frame was prepped a bit before chroming, but why the slide?
The hard chrome is a satin colour. I like this pimped pistol.
Both pistols have an extended mag release, but both buttons are stainless. Looks out of place on the blue gun.
Both have an extended slide release (blue) and an ambi safety. The safety does not click in a positive way like my others. I don't see the need for the ambi and see it as a potential accidental way to turn the saftey off. Unless it really improves with use it will get replaced.
Slide to frame fit is tight. Barrel has no play in the bushing.
I hope to shoot these in three days and will report back. I know initial results don't mean much, but I will share what happens.
Then I ship them off for trigger jobs.
Range report.
We shot them both with 2 loadsat 20 yards. The plain 200 cast bullet worked fine. Some of the rounds with plated 200 would not chamber. Probably inadequate taper crimp. Maybe plated bullet is fatter?
Bill shoots better than I do and he got a better group out of the blue gun than I did with the 2 tone. Both of us found the trigger very heavy. They get mailed to the gunsmith tomorrow.
The accuracy, out of the box, is excellent. With some load development and a trigger job I have no doubt groups can be shrunk at least 30%.
