Ok follow up on my new Beretta 682 Gold E xtrap.

It's only at the 1000 round mark. Points perfectly, shoots where I aim, as long as I don't lift my head. Still need a lil work in that department... :p

Question here is, occasionally, maybe once per 200 rounds, I would find the gun to be harder than usual to open. Like, I would try to open the gun and it would open a lil, then I have to use extra force to open it, then the next round it would be fine. Is that normal? Or is there something I should know about?

This usually happens when the gun's been throwing lead for awhile and is pretty hot.

I know there are a lot of Beretta owner out there that should be able to answer this.

Again this gun was bought new.

Thanks ahead for all the help.

Gasanwu, that is not normal, and should be looked at. I'll even take a guess at what's causing it. (I also shoot a Gold E X Trap).

In the Beretta design, the hammer springs are coils which surround threaded guide rods. On the end of the rods are what Beretta calls guide rod nuts, although they look like cylinders rather than a conventional nut.

When the gun is opened, the springs are compressed and the guide rods slide backwards into recesses drilled into the head of the stock. If one of the guide rod nuts has backed off, or if there is some manufacturing debris left in the guide rod recesses, it can interfere with the opening of the gun. The extra pressure you are using is forcing the obstruction into the stock wood - not good. When the thing rattles loose again, it starts interfering and the gun is tough to open.

In your case I am only guessing, but I have seen this problem before. The good news is that you can check it out yourself. The 682 stock is held on with a through bolt, and your gun came with the tool to remove it. Take off the stock and check out the guide rod recesses and the guide rod nuts. I'll bet you find something in there that shouldn't aught to be.

Well, the only other things that I know of that could create an intermittent opening problem as described are:

1) Something interfering with the cocking rods (which could be heat related).

2) Ejector actuator misalignment.

3) Perhaps something is preventing the locking cones from fully withdrawing? (long shot).

This is out in left field , but could you have a dirty camber and
shell face dragging heavy on the frame- also, if you haven't chech
the primmer on your shells when you have trouble to see if you may
have firing pin problem- I would not think this is the case, but?
