Just bought an inexpensive Stoeger (IGA - Condor) O/U in 12 gauge and am very pleased. Had it out for partridge and had some success. The action will take a bit of working to smooth it out, but darned nice out of the box for $450. I checked out the CZs too, but they only had them in 20 ga. It was so nice, however, I may have to go back for it soon.

Just sharing.....

I don't put pictures of my guns on any website just out of principle, but I did shoot it in the back 40 and on a partridge hunting trip to Temagami and it is very nice indeed. It comes up fast, is well balanced and the fit is ideal for my sight picture. I'm happy. :)

There's a few around my club that could be picked up cheap as they won't fire the bottom barrel. I've seen issues with 3 that have come out recently. All have been back for warrenty work and still have issues. Sounds like you got lucky with yours

I like it when something works out for me. Can't say that's always the case. :)

Anyway, two boxes through it now and a trap shoot coming up so time will tell. I was surprised that the gun will not fire the lower barrel without first having fired the upper. It seems there may be an inertia safety of some type in the gun, as it works flawlessly when fired in sequence. Could be, of course, something is catching and only falling into place when the upper barrel shot first. If you try to just shoot the lower barrel without first shooting the upper, no go. The only thing I'm not too keen on is the fact that the safety goes on automatically each time the action is opened. It's taking me a while to get used to this. The owner's manual that came with it is less than useless.

Follow-up on the trigger. Just as I suspected. The following quote is taken from an on line review by "The Texaner", Austin, Texas;

"This grade also uses a single-trigger mechanism that I've never seen before. When I first got the gun home and assembled, I tested the trigger in dry fire. The first pin fired just fine, but the trigger wouldn't set to fire the second barrel. Worried that I'd bought a defective gun from a store 100 miles away from home, I hit Google to see if anyone had experienced the same problem. Sure enough - yes. Apparently, the trigger mechanism uses the recoil from the first shot to set the trigger for the second. Weird, but as long as it works, I'm OK with it. Incidentally, you can get the trigger to set for the second barrel in dry fire by cycling the safety."

The part I hadn't figured out on my own (yet) was the fact that the lower barrel can be fired in dry fire by cycling the safety. Who'd a thunk it?

I bought the condor in 410 back in the spring. I have heard of ppl giving the stock a whack to set the trigger for the second shot but I haven't had a misfire yet. Mine also fires the bottom barrel first.

You lads need to bone up on inertia triggers vs mechanical triggers - the two standard mechanisms found in O/U's. The issue you describe can easily happen with an inertia trigger, even on high end guns like Brownings. It happens quite regularly at our skeet shoots, particularly in the lighter gauges.
