has anyone seen the new Ontario electronic/home print tags yet? I got my turkey license and there is a typical "tag" portion which you have the notch out etc.

BUT there is some interesting wording on the new tags with regards to attaching it to the animal (would would be a pain as a printed piece or regular printer paper will not say on an animal well)

it says

"2. You may attach the tag to the animal
at any time; however you MUST attach
the tag if you are not immediately
accompanying the animal or available
to produce the tag for inspection. The
tag must be securely attached to the
lower part of a leg."

so in this case if you are always with the animal (eg like a turkey) then you don't need to attach it to the turkey..

Also.. the "Warning" wording is confusing as well.. since the "original" is the electronic version, then only way to get a printed copy is to "copy" it to paper.

"It is illegal to create or be in possession of a modified, copied or counterfeit tag. Il est illégal de créer ou de posséder une vignette modifiée, reproduite ou contrefaite."

so therefore by the exact wording you are always in violation if you make a printed copy of the electronic tag.

FFS, people complain a lot....

Buy tag, print tag, put it on an animal if you are not near by.... This makes group hunts easier.

Don't have more than one of any given tag...

Laminate/ziplock bag it and you are good to go.

Don't read into it.

I think he was looking for clarification not complaining...go have another cup of coffee and relax...too early to get all wound up over what someone posted on the internet

I bought mine over the counter at a hunting store and got given a printed copy on the spot and was emailed a copy by the MNR. Oh lord I am in possession of two copies...

I havent figured out how to notched the electronic copy yet, so I deleted the email, lit my phone on fire and then crushed it with my car just to be safe.

I think they recognized it was stupid to tag a bird when you shoot it drive it home and butcher it within 24 hours typically without ever seeing a human being.

Also not much point tagging an unlaminated piece of paper to a bird that could be wet/ bloody.

In all honesty dont sweat the copies. As long as there arent five people carrying copies of the same tag, or you are found with three birds all tagged with the same turkey license number, you will be fine. The tags are there to prevent poaching. Dont poach, and dont abuse your tags the way a poacher might, and you will be fine.

I plan to hang a cheapo USB stick (containing my seal/tag) on my game. I choose to not waste my money on paper and ink. Electronic game seal? Sure thing, I can roll with that...

Now that is a pretty darn interesting idea!

Only if you can immediately use it. The point of electronic is its on your smartphone.

Since I doubt the CO will be carrying around a USB card reader, you wont be able to prove it.

Edit - You still require a paper version of your tag, its only the license summary which can be digital.

Myself, I bought a laser print off Amazon for $130 last summer. The original cartridge that comes with it is rated for 1000 pages. Replacement cartridges arent overly expensive. I didnt buy it specifically for this, but it will come in handy.

If you havent looked at the price of laser printers lately, do so.

cause a poacher uses tags? not going to stop one single poacher. just more bs from the greenies at the mnr and f

Smart phone? Don't have one. Printer? Don't have one of them either. Just a computer and a USB stick is all I have.
With the switch to electronic tag, the CO ought be prepared to read my tag/seal in electronic format, same format as I received it.

So if you don't have to attach the tag then what is stopping you from taking an animal escorting it back out and if not challenged going back out and using the same tag to take another animal ? techinically you could not be charged without some sort of proof of misdoing in act..... just being the devils advocate of this new form of wording

Nothing if you dont get stopped. Which is a joke because the CO's are hundreds of km apart...I can see many moose tags being re-used...They are literally enticing unethical folks to turn into poachers...
