New optic needed...opinions wanted.

Easily 200, if not 300.

Now to be fair, I have not tried it that far, but I am confidend enough in the combo that I would not heasitate to shoot that far.

Reduc and Cancuckle: Do you find your optics overly large? How is the 1x on both? Are you able to keep both eyes open?

It is heavier than an ACOG for sure, but not really cumbersome. 1x is a true 1x on the TR24G (well, you get some slight 'distortion' under 5 yards, but anything past that has none). Two eyes open is no problem - looks exactly like an Aimpoint or EoTech!

With my Comp M4 I can hold an 8" gong at 200m sitting, kneeling and prone. The reticle seems easier to use than the elcan picket (on a perfectly round target), it just wants to hold center. I have not tried it at 300m however I have no doubt it will be good to minute of man.

MR GL:

That is some fine shooting!!

Refresh my memroy, I have a comp M4 and I belive mine is a 2moa dot??

On the DMS both eyes open yes absolutely. It's not overly large compared to a holosight and 3x magnifier....

See my other post in the 'optics' section for side by side pictures hehe....

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=438541

I don't compete yet in any multi gun or service rifle stuff so can't say what the pros/cons of this optic are for that use.

Because the DMS is an illuminated circle and a dot the whole BAC seems to work. (never tried it on a Trij)

The red DMS reticle completely washes out in bright backgrounds and snow. BUT it then just becomes black.

The problem I found with the Holosight/3x magnifier combination is that it puts the primary optic too far down the rail for where I personally felt comfortable using it.
What I ended up doing is moving the 3x back.... and that caused other issues. i.e. room for a BUIS.

Meh, maybe I just had the setup wrong.

I'm happier now. Even though the DMS is not technically a red dot.

Hey buddie, go with an EOTech 511.A65, 65 MOA reticle with 1 MOA redt dot inside, not too much expensive and will do a great job on your TP9!!

If you're having trouble aiming with the micro there are two things to try.

1. Turn down the setting a bit so the dot is finer.

2. Aim using the top of the dot.

There is no good reason a micro shouldn't be accurate enough for <200m shooting, just takes practice.

Pffft - I can put a round through a fleas a$$ at 200 meters.....:D

I didn't say I couldn't get hits with the micro, I'm saying that accuracy suffers. A 4 moa dot is a little large for the gongs we use at our range. I would rather take a dead on hold with my dot than have to aim over or under with it. I would much rather a 2MOA or 1 MOA dot.

I really liked the PKAS I had. It had an etched 1 MOA reticule plus a red dot for low light. The only down side was its height and weight.

Does anyone have any experience with the Leupold prismatic gun sight? I wonder if it's as robust as the Aimpoint? It has an etched reticle as well but I can'tfind any info on it's dot size.

That being said, you guys almost have me convinced to buy another micro...

I think the Leupold has a 3moa dot, but I cant be sure of that.

from what I hear its built pretty tough, but you are getting the poor sides of a scope (set/limited eye relief, poor illumination, inability to co-witness iron sights) without any of its benefits (magnification), and at 1x, you don't have a parallax free optic, like you do with Aimpoints or EOTech's.

If you want to get a scope like that, then a 1-4 Nightforce or 1.5-5 Leupold would be better, since you are getting almost the same optical performance at 1x as the Prismatic, but you also get the ability to zoom into a target.

The ONLY benifit the prismatic has, is the etched retical, so it doesn't need batteries.

Which worlds are those, No Return to Zero World & Shifting Point of Impact World?

come on just because its on an arms mount and will begin to wobble after awhile, no need to be so judgemental on it :D

I use to be skeptical about all the arms bashing till the arms mount on my Trijicon Reflect started to get loose abit...and its not even that old.

The mount is the one thing that keeps me from buying one. It's a shame that the mount is so complex that no one else can make a proper aftermarket upgrade.

When I had a 1-4x scope on my 11.5" upper my best at 300 yards was a 7" group. Cheap 55gr ammo. Had the cheap scope in a Larue 1.93" QD mount and found it to be too much for a short AR. Went to a EOTec XPS2 and had a very fast set up for the close stuff. Took a little time to get use to it;) I do have a 3x mounted behind for when needed on a QD mount but how accurate do you really need to be with a short AR? Spend some $$$ on ammo and try the aim for just above the dot trick(might work for you?) Could always get a 16" match grade upper with a 1-10x March scope on it:p

The issues with the elcan go way beyond just the ARMS throw levers.

IOR had a short 1-4 power IR scope they were showing, I wonder what happened to it?

I think Wolverine has the Pitbull in stock. I looked through one at he Brandon gun show - it was nice! Opinions I've read say that its good but the reticle can wash out in bight light (dot goes black). Some guys are using it for 3 gun in the USA and like it.

The glass is huge and clear like the Spectre DR, it has a true 1x, but theres no in between. You either get 1x or 4x. It's on the Valdada site and theres threads on other gun sites:
