WHat is the quality of these rifles say in the last 5 years to now...never really played around with them, but local sale on right now has me temtped
I can buy a new for cheaper than a used on EE right now.

Some say quality is not that good, but I dunno, am looking for real world advice from owners

Is this the most recent run of model 70's, or there a timeline when these particular rifle were made..any specifice markings/stamps i should look for

Hi,
FN began re-manufacturing the Model 70 in South Carolina in 2008. The New Haven, Connecticut factory was closed in 2006. The quality of the newer product is very good but the final New Haven rifles did have quality control issues.
Check the usual things such as fit and finish.
If you have been offered a rifle at what seems like a price too good to be true, it should ring alarm bells.
Tack

I've had a couple, a .458 Win Mag and a 30-06 Super-grade. The .458 works perfectly, and will cut cloverleafs at 100 yards.I've killed 10 buffalo with it so far.

The 30-06 worked perfectly, but wouldn't shoot better than 2 MOA with handloads it liked. Its gone now. Funny thing is, if the .458 shot like that it would have be great for its purpose. If the 30-06 shot like the .458 it would still be here, and I'd be dragging a matched set of Winchesters around.

Had 2 of them, one shot ok the other was the most accurate factory sporting rifle I have ever had. 30-06 sporter would put 3 shots just under a quarter inch center to center, using hand loads and shot by a better shot then i

If it is the FN version (post 2008) they are a beautiful and well made rifle. I bought a new super grade last year in 338 and promptly chambered it out to 340 Wby and am still working on it but I have shot it and it seems to shoot well but haven't dome enough with it to be 100% yet.
I thought I heard somewhere that FN was guaranteeing moa with the new Wins.

Ask the year before you buy though, 'cause the pre FN were junk and would not shoot well unless super lucky.

Bought a new featherweight, accuracy is decent, but I am still working up loads. So far a 200g hotcor is acceptable, but I think I can do better. Fit and finish is excellent, and I will be adding another M70 to the rack soon!

IMHO even very well used CZ Bruno is much better than brand new newest FN build Winchester 70. I am no downgrading the Winchester but if it comes to CRF mausers even Rugger mod 77 is just as good if not better build with added bonus of superior scope mounting system and guess which company is backordered in exces of 6 months of production....To conclude the matter, choose your brand carefully, pinch your money, take your time and have a fun....

I bought a 30-06 extreme weather last year. I've been shooting it quite a bit since then with factory ammo. The fit and finish is pretty good, but I don't find that it shoots as well as I expected. About 2-2.5 MOA. Not sure if it is the gun or me. I'm not ready to give up on it, so I'm going to try hand loading for it soon.
Oh, and the synthetic stock that it came with scratches very easily, leaving white marks on it.
