Thank you all for your comments...decided to give the Sauer100 Classic XT a try from Prophet River...order placed, thx Tyler.
Prophet River confirmed the barrel is threaded to the action.
You really can't go wrong at $799... the only very minor thing is that a 9.3X62 seems wrong in a synthetic stock... to me at least.

don't forget to register the rifle on sauer's website to extend the warranty to 10 years!

I’m sure you will be quite impressed with the quality for the money, I sure was. Another nice feature is the Sauer 100 takes standard Remington long action scope bases. Wow! A 9.3x62 Sauer with a red dot, you will be ready for wild boar fever.��

I consider the red dot an update from open sights and aging eyes...90% of the game I take is well under 100 yards range anyways so I'm sure the red dot will work out just fine
Under 100 yards the red dot will work just fine... "but" the 9.3X62 is a cartridge capable of much more than just being a short range thumper... I would, at least consider a bright low power scope... my African 9.3X62 wears a VX-3 1.5-5X20mm with German #4 reticle... I am comfortable with this set up out to 300 yards... and it is still great at 20 yards. Just a thought.
Agree with that for sure, hoyt. I have occasionally run all five silhouettes off the rail at 300 meters when shooting from the bench at our range.
Well do I remember whacking a huge bull on the South Canol Road that was considerably farther away than that. My wife and another couple with us were quite impressed! Of course the vitals on a really big moose are easily twenty inches or so, and had a nice steady rest on the top of the canopy while standing on the rear bumper of the truck.
So, the gals made another quick breakfast while we started the work!

Well do I remember whacking a huge bull on the South Canol Road that was considerably farther away than that. My wife and another couple with us were quite impressed! Of course the vitals on a really big moose are easily twenty inches or so, and had a nice steady rest on the top of the canopy while standing on the rear bumper of the truck.
So, the gals made another quick breakfast while we started the work!

The red dot is a strikefireII (4 MOA dot)and will be mounted on a QD ring with a Rem 700 la weaver rail on the receiver...a low power scope on QD rings will only take seconds to swap out.
Was thinking of a 1-6, or 1-8 scope with an illuminated reticle for later on.
In all honesty I think this is more of a novelty gun for me, which will most likely get played with more than hunted with, time will tell
Oh, just received a tracking no. for 100 brass, bullets and dies...the excitement builds!

All part of the fun. Did some on line checking of the Sauer as I'm not familiar with it. Looks good!! Look forward to your feed back info on it and it's definitely a few steps above my Zastava. I had a couple of used scopes on hand and went with a 3x9 Bushnell on my 9.3x62 and put a Simons 3x9 on my 7x57. That'll keep me going for the immediate future.
I'm a little short on suitable spare scopes right now but I do have a 3-12x56 Swarovski Habicht (to heavy) and a VX5HD CDS-ZL2 3-15x44 (to much mag)sitting idle, that I can use for load development before the red dot goes on...
Great choice , you won’t be disappointed. If you do decide to use a scope I’d recommend the leupold vx3 1.5-5x20 on a rail. Reason I recommend a rail is that the Sauer has a 14 inch length of pull and a rail will give you a bit more adjustability with the scope to get the best position for your eye relief. If you pm me your email address I can send you some pics of my Sauer set up that way so you can see how it all goes together. Once again great choice on the Sauer , I’m glad to see you went that way !

I mounted a one piece picatinny base on my Sauer 100 6.5x55 with Burris extreme tactical rings and Leupold 3-9x40.
As far as a novelty gun I don’t know about that. I find the Sauer has a very nice feel to it and the slick 60 degree bolt is quite fast. There is a video on YouTube where a guy fired five rounds off in less than five seconds. I don’t know if it’s just the 60 degree bolt lift but to me even though it is a long action it does not feel like it. The bolt lift on mine was a little stiff at first out of the box but after a few evenings cycling the action while watching tv it is quite slick now. Let us know what you think of it when it arrives.

I see prophet river has got a few Leopold VX 1x4 freedom pig plex scopes in, for 400, I've got one of these scopes, and just ordered a second one, for my double rifle,
A fine scope for hunting and lighter than most. My scope recommendation for a 9.3x62, worth what you payed.
