I see the sponsors are selling the 10/22 RUGER TD model for about $60.00 less than what's being asked on EE for USED. Wondering if the used ones sell. Then again as told by the (USED CAR SALESMAN) they are one of a kind, driven by a little old lady, low mileage, 30 day warranty etc, etc.
Enjoy.

Depends on the mods and extra parts and mags tax and shipping prices generally I'll buy new if it costs the same or fifty less

If your not the kind of guy that does his homework on prices before you go to the EE then you will most likely get hosed.

I love how a gun price rises by $200 when it comes with a $25 Tasco scope sitting on top.

I got burned on the EE recently on one of those Uberti repro lever guns. The former owner did some 'gunsmithing' that he neglected to mention in his ad...and it will take some new parts and some gunsmithing to properly fix. I don't care, the gun is still handsome to look at and one day when time permits I suppose I will take it down and get the work done to get it shooting again...but a younger fella who has a limited gun budget would have been choked and rightfully so.

I am conflicted about the EE; I use it and sell on it but I make damned sure that my descriptions are as good as I can make them. If they have issues I say so; and I have never had complaints from any buyers. When we talk terms over the PM I always tell my buyers that if there are any issues I will make them right. I have even thrown in brass and dies with guns in calibres I will never shoot again...but a lot of those pikers on the EE aren't like that. Some are so mercenary that you can get a 'vibe' off them right over the internet. If you have problems with folk like that you are on your own. It basically says that in the EE 'Stickies'.

If you can buy new. Support our suppliers. When you sell, use the EE and support CGN - but more importantly, support your buyer especially if they are younger shooters just getting into the sport.

Good solid advice to live by. If the seller refuses to give details or is hard to communicate with...walk away
.

I love when others mention what the prices are on the EE to justify their inflated price. Asking price and selling price are not the same. Someone may pay your high price but I find most sit on the EE for a long time.

I too try and describe everything I can about a gun if I sell one. Might make it harder to sell but in the end the prospective buyer has a pretty good idea of what to expect and there are no unpleasant surprises. But many sellers disclose only the bare minimum, even after asking questions. So the buyer really has to do their homework on condition and prices. Lets just say there are a lot of 100% trader ratings on the EE that should not be.
As far as prices, one can easily find what a new gun sells for. So if a used one is priced higher, walk away unless it has a bunch of options added that the buyer wants.

The problem for buying new for me, is thata most of the guns REALLY like are close to 100 years old- pretty hard to find a "new one", and if I did I likely could not afford it!!
Pay attention to what is being sold, and check the trader rating . If there are several there that you know, it's all good as long as the price is what you want to pay.

Two issues here....Firstly EE, rants and raves. I have bought much more than i have sold, all positive experiences. Then again i research everything, have a idea of value, ask for photo;s, deal with people with 100% rating and some trader numbers....so for me the EE has been great.

Second issue is buying a used 10/22. These guns are not known as being accurate, as one would expect, from say a CZ bolt 22. Should not imagine that the takedown would be even as accurate as a standard 10/22. If the price was close i would buy new, off the EE a 10/22 has a good chance of having been shot to the point of a smoking hot barrel. New, you know the history, any overshooting like that is your own fault, not someone else's issue passed on to you.

Always am nervous buying used, i speak to my favorites dealers and i always end up paying on par or cheaper for brand new, i would not have it any other way... Just saying. JP.

well what is better? buy something new or pay the same or more for a used one . someone said that you can ask for a cheaper price than what they are asking I pointed out to a seller that I could purchase new for the price he was asking he replied back and called me a ####. EE is a joke

Can't generalize the entire EE on that one dealing.

But with respect to the Ops question. I would pay more than new price for an old all metal 10/22. I would also pay the box store retail price for an sks mosin/svt if owner has all the cosmolene cleaned up. But generally if apples to apples if both items are identical only way I would buy at asking price is if LNIB or NIB and landed I get it slightly cheaper (only if it is something I really want and it is available now).

With used you never know how the firearm was treated and round count. Unless you are desperate and cannot find a brand new, you have to take the risk. My preference is to buy brand new specially when the difference of used price is small. You also have warranty for brand new for those non-transferable. You have little to no recourse with used.

When you described your stuff the way they really are,you will never have a problem with a buyer...

Yes Price is one thing but condition is another .....

I frequently purchase from EE and have been happy so far with one exception that I experienced a long time ago. IMO there are different kinds of buyers and sellers. A seller who asks to much - doesnt really want to sell - that's ok ... its their item and they can sell it or keep it. A seller who prices attractively - will get a buyer.

BUT condition is what bugs me ... I generally avoid sellers who post pics that are too small or fuzzy to see any detail - I think its a cheesy attempt to obscure the condition of the item. I always avoid a seller who says "no pic hunters" ... since nobody should buy an item (unless it is NIB) without seeing it. Seems to me that an intelligent person who didn't want "pic hunters" would simply post pics with the ad. I guess my other pet peeve is sellers who deliver "stripped" rifles eg ... missing sights is one thing but no plugs in the screw holes and being silent on it or other obvious missing screws etc. and I am astounded that folks will list a rifle and will mention that there is "a little bluing missing" but fail to mention that there are pits in the metal ... IMO pitted steel is a sign of very serious long term neglect and probably effecting the bore and likely other internal components I cant see.
etc..

(and to add my other personal quirk - I usually pass over an ad very quickly and certainly NEVER purchase or make an offer when the ad instructs me "no low balling" etc. even if I thought the asking was probably ok -... odd but thats just the way I am - maybe it's because I just don't know what "low balling" it means - but I think its a pretty juvenile attempt to communicate to a potential buyer that this is "a real deal"...NOT!)

I to try to describe my items the best I can with every detail I can put in the add .and I have not has any problems .what realy gets me is the 870 express .I got a brand new one at bass pro for 308$ out the door plus a 25$ rebate .that is 283$ for a brand new 870 ,from a big box store .and every one I see on the EE is 400$ plus .really come on ,Dutch

Lots of good deals on the EE, along with lots of ridiculously overpriced stuff. If you want to buy used, it's your responsibility to know the difference. Don't price the stuff you want to sell at twice what it should be expected to bring, and just as important, don't expect sellers to drop their pants on price if they are already at a realistic level. Expect complete and accurate descriptions of used guns, and ask questions if you have them. Guns are incredibly durable goods, and can serve several generations of owners with even minimal care and attention. I've had several hundred guns go through my hands over the years, and I doubt that more than 5% of them were purchased new. I deal with established sellers (both retailers and on the EE), I don't act like an a-hole in my dealings, and I've had virtually no problems.

In other words, "Do unto others..." :)

I always price anything be it a firearm or quad at a reasonable price and I usually get my full asking price. Lots of dreamers trying to get more than their items are worth. I find better deals new from the retailer on this site, especially if you can get free shipping. Cabelas is great too if you can get some promo. I've been watching the EE for a few months for a xcr -l and while there's lots FS they are mostly older models wanting premium price, new from one of the support in retailers is probably where I'll buy.
