Just painted my Mossberg 500 persuader. First time painting a gun. I did a little research and I used Krylon Comoflauge O.D. green and krylon grey primer, finish turned out real nice with no runs or dry spots. Tell me what you think.

How is the paint for scuffs/scraps?

So far there has been nothing for scuffs or scraps, the paint is very durable. I also put on about 2 coats of primer and about 3 coats of paint to help prevent the paint from being damaged too easily. I imagine in the long run after a lot of use i will start to see some, but that will happen with any kind of finish.

btw... the mag has also been painted matte black as it used to have a blued finish, i have racked it about 20 times since i painted it and there is still no scrapes on either the mag or the barrel

love it !!

stupid question but where did you find your paint ? I found some Krylon but I didn't try it yet; is it written somewhere that it's for metal/firearm ?
Does it work also on aluminium ?
Thanks !

The krylon i used was from canadian tire. it was th Comoflauge make of krylon and says on it it can be used for metals, i dont see a problem using it on aluminum because (i believe) aluminum is more porous then steel and would adhere just as well. I also used the grylon brand primer which i believe help out to get the finish. I believe i the item # was 4136 grey primer...not positive so ill get back to you on that.

The comoflauge type paint also says on it that it is ment for hunting equipment

Nice job! Did it take long?

Dave.

took about 4-5 hours without disassembly and reassembly, the longest was letting the final coat cure enough to handle....says on the paint to not handle for at least 2 hours...i gave it about 3 hours

TIP: always make sure that the suface you are painting has ABSOLUTLEY NO grease, finger prints oils or any of that sort. You will see the grease bleed throught the paint and that will cause a defect in the paint adhering to the surface. Use a really good degreaser that evaporates after you wipe it down.

Looks good!

I just bought the same paint actually to redo the stock on my rifle. What colour was the metal originally?

I am still not 100% if the krylon paint is safe for my synthetic stock, it doesn't say anywhere if it is safe for plastics or composites.

what degreaser did you use? I was going to use a household degreaser and some rubbing alcohol.

To be honest i might be painting the stock on my remington 700 the same colour. I believe that it does say on it that it is alright for plastics, just be sure that you use the krylon primer that the can suggests. i believe it 4136 grey primer. as for the degreaser, any strong degreaser will work and i dont see a problem using the rubbing alcohol....but i didnt. good luck
