New Paint Job on my Mossy

The krylon i used was from canadian tire. it was th Comoflauge make of krylon and says on it it can be used for metals, i dont see a problem using it on aluminum because (i believe) aluminum is more porous then steel and would adhere just as well. I also used the grylon brand primer which i believe help out to get the finish. I believe i the item # was 4136 grey primer...not positive so ill get back to you on that.

thanks for that. I think I've got the same paint and I already tried the black on aluminium but it doesn't stay  . I'll try with the primer.

more tips, more tips :D

I am still a little wary of using it on my synthetic stock... I sent an email to krylon asking, and I think I will call them on monday too just to make sure

It doesn't really say anywhere about using it on plastic so I want to make sure I am safe before I go ruining my stock

I've used naptha for a degreaser for painting. I want to paint my mossy 590 dark grey or tan but I am really not that torqued by the odd scuff or scrape. On the contrary it makes the difference between a painted up "road queen" and a working gun (to use a 4x4 analogy). A little field wear looks good in my opinion.

Is that pretty commonly available at hardware stores or crappy tire?

ANOTHER TIP: i found that the primer itself gives a really good base for the paint. in my opinion you should ALWAYS primer before you paint...(jus another tip). and to clarify the primer i used was " Krylon 41318 Grey Primer ". It seemed to give a great seal and adheasion to the metal itself...and the krylon primer dries with a little bit of a rough finish so it almost feels like a parkerized finish

I wanted mine tan too, but couldn't find any tan paint so it will be green :D
Degreasing this night, painting on sunday....

pics on monday ??

Still not sure if I paint the stock...

after this thread I went looking at Cdn Tire this morning while I was getting new tires put on. I noticed the "Stone" version of the paint, and was wonering if anyone has tried it had a neat feel to it but the black had white in it (I guess to look like rocks???).

I got out my old wingmaster and she needs a new paint job so I was wondering how could I get it as close to my 870 Express in terms of feel. I would like to try camo if I had the patience but I may just go with a flat black , tan - -sort of wetland look to it since it will be my duck/goose gun mainly, also any tips on making it look that way?

thanks!

Ok, I did mine !!
If I'm happy with the look, I'm more septical about the resistance of the painting : 2 days in the bush with it and there's already a lot of scuffs  well, it's my "job gun"... zombies gun only outside job hours :D
I painted 3 coats of primer and 4 coats of very thin OD paint.

sorry for the hijacked

sixty9santa you got the eye !!! how do ou know it's not a 870 ??
not sure who made my extension but a better metal than the rest of the gun
paint looks not too bad after 3 days in the bush...will post a picture in a month to compare.
I'll try to find some car paint, it shoud be more resistant

thanks for comments

Ok i have had quite a few discussions with a lot of ppl about clear coating. The question up in the air is... does it ruin the matte finish and make it more glossy?

i know it gives the paint a hard coating and helps a lot toward durability, but i love the matte finish compared to a glossy one....can anyone answer this once and for all. thnx
