The 105mm minimum length applies only to handguns. There is no minimum barrel length for rimfire rifles and manual action centerfire rifles and shotguns, just the minimum OAL limit of 660mm (25.98"). You are correct on the rest of it and good point on cutting barrels and the 457mm (17.99") limit applying to all long guns, with no exceptions.

No wonder no LEO or anyone in the court system or even educated gun owners can't understand all these laws. Badly written and just too confusing, I would imagine that even the best lawyers have to study up before any court case or comments. The whole things insane. That's why illegal storage is the 1st and easiest step for most charges.

At least one judge has commented that the firearms act and related criminal code sections are possibly the most poorly written legislation in our history. I think I could re-write the entire firearms act and get it done in about 4 pages instead of 50+ pages and maintain all the same features.

Oh... Don't get me started about safe storage rules. That's a page's worth of vaguely worded, self contradicting legislation all of its own.

Not to mention how offensive the idea of government telling you what you must do in your own home is in the first place.

Not all semi-autos are restricted. AR-type rifles and some variants are restricted. However have a look at the JR Carbine or Thureon Defense carbines - AR-style rifle however blowback design, so non-restricted. Use Glock pistol mags, 10 rounds permitted.

Being blowback operation has nothing to do with why the JR and TD carbines are non-restricted.

I didn't see any mention about "BLACK" Rifles.

I understood that say an "AR" style .22, or any .22 cal that looks like an assault rifle, for example an MP5 etc...is restricted.

I don't think you can go hunting or anywhere but a rifle range with any "Assault rifle .22cal replicas". Or am I mistaken?

Like you guys say the law is a bit confusing.

If it's non restricted and the cal matches the animal and it's in season , then you can hunt with it . I don't think they're called assault rifles but Ar or Ar variant. M&P is Ar variant = restricted= no hunt.... Ruger sr 22 looks like AR but not a variant= NR= you can hunt with it...715t looks like AR, but not a variant= NR= you can hunt with it. Ar15 = restricted= no hunt. Robinson arms , Keltec su16 , bushmaster ,Swiss all can be made to look kinda like black rifle but are not AR variant.= you can hunt with them. anyway thAts what I've picked out all of this mess.

The examples quoted are examples of the RCMP making their own laws as they go along. These firearms have been classified as variants (and thus Restricted or Prohibited as the case may be) based solely on exterior aesthetics and not on any functional or ancestral connection.

The law outlines these firearms as Non-Restricted because they meet all the requirements to be NR, however the people working for the RCMP are tools and they make their own laws.

The designation AR does NOT mean assault rifle by the way, it refers to the original patent holders, Armalite. They are Armalite Rifles.

My M&P15-22 is restricted, but I believe that that is because Smith & Wesson refers to it as an AR-15 variant, and all ARs are named restricted by legislation. And yes, it is range use only.
